Benny's Family Restaurant — Restaurant in Twentynine Palms

Our wait time here was egregious. It was very clear very early on that this restaurant was severely understaffed- there was only 1 waitress running everything, and I'm pretty sure just 1 cook in the back. It took a ridiculous amount of time to get anything to our table, even just water, which was an issue compounded by not 1 but 2 large families (both with screaming children) walking in while we waited. This wasn't the staff's fault, and they were doing the best they could to keep up with the orders, but we were last to get our food and drinks after almost 2hours.

It took us over half an hour to get water, and another after that to actually order anything. We contemplated leaving because of how long everything was taking, but unfortunately, our time already waiting here meant that most other restaurants in the area had closed for the evening. So, we instead reluctantly stayed and waited to order our food. We finally received our food over an hour and a half after we had originally been seated, less than half an hour to the restaurants closing. This meant that after all that waiting, we needed to rush to eat our food. The waitress was completely absent during the entire visit, meaning we didn't get drink refills or any real check ups, and couldn't order anything to go until the check was brought to us. It was very frustrating.

The food itself was fine, nothing to write home about. It was on the pricier side, especially for the type of food it was, but by the end of our meal, we were just happy to pay and finally leave. The parking lot was sketchy and dark.

I had come here plenty of times while it was still Denny's, and was excited to try it again after all this time and the rebrand. I'm sad to say that I wouldn't come...

I got the fish and chips they served it With two very small fish and literally a sprinkle of fries. Cost $18! My man got the same thing with a cup of tartar that wouldn’t even dip one small fish. And I got no tartar. They didn’t ask if needed anything before they left the table. And stood at the register staring at me while I’m staring back waiting for her to come ask if there was something I needed. Our food sat at the counter waiting for about ten minutes before it was even look at by the waitress. Both waitresses were just standing by the register doing nothing. We paid for 4 meals leaving our bill at $100 and we all left unsatisfied and starving! Worst service and food amount for the cost! Also the bathrooms were very dirty. And they have a code for the woman’s bathroom that doesn’t even work I had to use the men’s restroom! The restaurant was bare no wondering why after visiting for the first time! Never will I...

I came into Benny’s Family Restaurant thinking I’d just get a good meal… and instead I got a full-on life upgrade.

Elsa, our server, didn’t just take our order, she basically became our life coach for the evening. Her menu recommendations were so spot-on that I’m half convinced she has psychic abilities. If Elsa tells you to try something, just do it. Don’t ask questions.

The food? Unreal. Every bite felt like a warm hug from a long-lost relative you actually like. By the end of the meal, I was in a better mood, sitting up straighter, and reconsidering my entire life choices (all in a good way).

Benny’s isn’t just the nicest place in 29 Palms… it’s the kind of place you tell your friends about so much, they eventually have to come just to get you to stop...
