I was in the Universal City area today and decided to stop in this Mexican food restaurant. This place actually opened where a previous Mexican restaurant was open at one time. We entered and were seated immediately, with menus. Our server greeted us as we were reviewing the menus. I asked if there were any specials where ice tea accompanied the meal, and they quickly pointed me to the back page and the specials for each day. We ordered tea. Chips and Salsa was also brought to our table. Upon returning with our drinks we each ordered meals off the special area, which was cheese enchiladas, with rice & beans (one order was charro beans and one refried). This special also had a cup of soup of the day, and tortillas (we ordered flour). Our soup arrived and it was tasty, but a little bland. I could not put my finger one what ingredient was missing, especially since it had tortillas chips, onions, cilantro in the broth. I'm guessing the soup may have been missing salt or pepper so the customer could add their own to taste. Our cheese enchiladas dishes arrived. The rice was tasty, the charro beans, again seemed to be missing an ingredient and tasted bland. The others who ordered refried beans also commented their refried beans tasted bland too. The cheese enchiladas with a mole sauce tasted OK good. The one thing that caught my eye, and everyone else's is that the plates and food were only warm. At other restaurants, I normally see the plates brought out hot, and the server warning you it was a hot plate. The last thing I tried was the tortilla, it tasted and looked store bought - I need to check if these are made in-house. Overall, the price for the lunch special, which included a Tea, and cup of soup was VERY reasonable. I gave the service high marks because we were well attended to, and the atmosphere high marks because there were some subtle changes and refurbished area from the previous restaurant. Four stars was assigned to the food because it will need some improvement. I hope to be back to try other dishes, like their puffy tacos or beef enchiladas.

Started with chips and salsa with queso. The salsa was excellent! The queso was not good and I would not order again. We also ordered the Tortilla soup. The broth was awesome but there was zero chicken in it and other than tortilla strips and avocado it was just broth. Not sure if that’s how it was supposed to be but would have been better with chicken. Also ordered the LaEstrella plate but got the Jalapeño Crème enchilada instead. The puffy taco was perfection and the enchilada was amazing. My daughter ordered the Tostada plate. She said it was ok. Will definitely be back to check out a few more items but overall a solid choice. Service was also excellent. Looking forward to trying their margaritas next time.

We had such a wonderful experience here! Our very large group showed up on short notice, and the staff went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and taken care of. Jerry, the owner and cook, personally came to our table, shared samples, and told us the story behind his restaurant—which made the experience feel even more special. The food was absolutely delicious, and every server we interacted with was friendly, attentive, and professional. It’s rare to find a place that can handle a big group so seamlessly while still making it feel personal. Highly recommend this restaurant for both the food and the warm, welcoming atmosphere!

Sat down and ordered, waited 45 minutes before being apologized for slow service. 10 minutes later was severed Luke warm food. With about 20+ tables which only 4 were occupied. During this whole time I had to put up with who I was told was the new owners son spewing all kinds of racist, homophobic statements very derogatory mentions of the staff. A baseball cap wearing sob. Do Not Support This Restaurant!!! Forgot to say the two margaritas I was severed for free by the embarrassed staff were two glasses that were twice the weight of the liquid served, and I've been tolded the amount of salt on the rim covers the actual taste or amount of alcohol in the drink. These had 1/2 inch of salt inside and outside of the drink. For historical info loved the prior establishment since early 90's. There is no comparison between menus....
