Jack & Harry's: A Beautiful Letdown
My wife and I were excited to dine at Jack & Harry's, lured by their promise of authentic Cajun cuisine with a New Orleans vibe and a string of high reviews (plus, she's Cajun).
First impressions were spot on: dim, flickering lighting; rich leather seating; a polished brick floor; and hosts and managers working the floor like seasoned politicians. The aesthetic whispers "French Quarter supper club" — stylish, warm, and intimate. Unfortunately, the food and service shouted something else entirely.
Let's start with the service — or more accurately, the slow, confused shuffle that passed for it. Our server seemed friendly (at first) but was clearly overwhelmed and struggled with anything off-script. At one point, he literally walked away mid-question.
When he returned, we ordered the grilled artichokes and French bread. The artichokes were smoky, well-seasoned, and genuinely delicious — easily the highlight of the evening (aside from my wife❣️). The French bread, however, took nearly 20 minutes and three reminders to appear — finally arriving thanks to a manager who stepped in.
Ordering entrées was a negotiation. We shared our preference for lighter dishes — less butter, less cheese, etc. — but our server didn't want to adjust anything. When I asked for the redfish without the heavy sauces, he replied, "That's not the way we do it." Same story with the salmon and the steak. I had to spell it out: just a simple grilled piece of fish, sauce on the side. He looked utterly baffled and even told me, "If you're into healthy, this probably isn't the place." Somehow, after a bit more back-and-forth, he agreed to modify it — but it felt like we were putting him out. (Even at the bar, the bartender bristled when my wife asked to make her drink less sweet.)
As for the entrées themselves: fine, not fantastic — nothing to complain about, but certainly nothing worth writing home about.
Dessert, however, was the real disappointment. No beignets. No bread pudding. Just sorbet, cheesecake, ice cream, and crème brûlée — the culinary equivalent of a hotel minibar. Our server proudly said that they only had two fryers and couldn't make beignets. Jack & Harry's can build a gorgeous dining room, but can't find space for a third fryer???
Declining dessert triggered the swiftest service of the night: our check was dropped immediately, and our water glasses whisked away — the not-so-subtle signal that our time was up.
In a city that doesn't overflow with Cajun restaurants, Jack & Harry's had a real chance to stand out. Instead, they delivered a frustrating reminder that polish and true hospitality are not the same thing. We'll chalk this one up under "Don't Go Marching In Again."
Vibe: 5/5 — Stunning decor and ambiance; they nailed the mood. Food: 3/5 — Solid but uninspired. Service: 1.5/5 — Disjointed, inattentive,...
Read moreIt was my fathers birthday, and having seen this place while walking around Snyder Plaza + the IG videos I chose to bring my dad to Jack & Harry’s for his birthday dinner
Made reservations at 8:30, and they needed a little extra time to get us a table which was fine and we got seated. I know this isn’t the restaurants fault, but it was LOUD. LOUD LOUD LOUD. We spent the entire evening shouting at each other to carry a conversation.
Ordered fried calamari, and it took 20 min to come out. Our server wasn’t around to let us know it was coming out soon, sorry for the wait, etc etc etc. and for $22nI was disappointed with the portion size of what we got, but it tasted great and the dipping sauces were tasty.
We ordered our entrees, and I started a stopwatch to see how long our food would take. I told my girlfriend that if our food wasn’t there in 20 min I’d complain to a manager to find out what the hell was going on especially with it being Ramadan and that I hadn’t eaten all day long.
3 of the 4 entrees we ordered arrived a shade under the 20 min, which made me wonder how 3 meals took the same amount of time as 1 appetizer.
Then my mom’s meal arrived and our sides and we dug in.
The food was a 10/10, minus the sauce on the steak frites which was a little sweeter than I personally like. We all loved our food, shared some bites, and enjoyed it.
With it being my dads birthday, and the fact that we spent $250 you’d think they’d give a dessert for free but they didn’t, and they also didn’t have bread or something to munch when we sat down.
Again, the food was 10/10 but for how much we were charged I’d think the service would be exceptional. Chick Fil-A is my bar for customer service, and this wasn’t even half of what I expect. We had to constantly ask for refills on our water, our waiter was nonexistent, and the food coming out took way longer than I feel it should’ve made the evening a little less spectacular than you’d think for a meal that cost $250 especially when I said we were...
Read moreI go to and review a lot of restraunts, and plenty that are high end. With that said, Jack & Harry's, while new, stands out above the crowd.
For starters, I ended up at Jack & Harry's by accident. I was attending a business dinner that had reservations at a location that closed across the street. We did not know they had closed, so showed up with no where to go.
We walked across to Jack & Harry's with little hope. Upon entering, you are met with a classy ambiance, in a beautifully designed restraunt with a central bar, and creating that surrounds the outside walls for the rest of the main room. Further in is another, equally decorated dinning room.
We were greated by two extremely polite hostesses, who initially told us that they could not accommodate a large group. We asked about a few options, and their manager came to great us, and explained that they had only been open a short time, so wanted to make sure to set us and their staff up for great service. They did an awesome job to determine how to make our party work.
Once seated our drink orders were taken quickly, and we were offered a review of drink and food menus. Our drink and appetizers came quickly. I highly suggest the crab cake beignet, ceasar salad, and they had one of the best Old Fashioned (listed under a Cajun name).
The menu lists numerous steak, chicken and fish options. I was pleased to have the Branzino (Again, some of the best I have had). Others in my party tried various steak options and said they were some of the best they have had.
The sides come seperate, so as a table we ordered the mash potatoes, carrots, and creamed spinach. All were great...but special shout out to that spinach.
Overall, if you can't tell, I was a huge fan!! I look forward to returning to Dallas, and may make the trip from Tulsa specifically for...
