Had the worst experience yesterday, after being seated, my fiance, best friend, my son and I each ordered a dish to share, we ordered the house fried rice which looked and tasted soo bland, the pad thai noodles dish which was pretty decent. Except for the chicken in the dish which had no flavor and tasted soo bland, we also ordered the papaya salad that was flavorful, and a beef dish that tasted soo gamey, we were already disappointed in the food immediately but didn't complain, we chalked it up as Maybe the feel a bit rushed due to the restaurant being very busy. We have came to this restaurant previously and had no complaints. After being served, no on came to check on us, we had to stop a waitress a few times, to ask for extra napkins, water refills and some chili sauce. Once we finished what we could, we asked for boxes and the check, our bill came out to $70.28, in which we paid with a $100 bill, the waitress took our money, then came right back stating that she didn't have change for a big bill, In which I reminded her that my change would be less than $30, she then asked us to use a credit card, we responded by letting her know that we had cash only, she then walked away, we were surprised, the restaurant was packed so how could they not have change? 10 mins passed and no one came back to our table, my fiance stopped a waitress to ask her what was going on. , she came to our table and stated that they couldn't take our money because it was "not good" I asked her why she felt that way? I had a new $100 bill however earlier that day I dropped my money in a small puddle which I explained to her, so it had a small bit of dried debris on it..i asked her if that was the reason, she then left and came back with the original waitress who claimed to be the manager. They kept asking us to use apple pay (we are Android users) or for us to go to the bank, at which time it's not 7:37pm. The bank isn't open, I asked her to run the bill through their machine to verify the money was not counterfeit, she walked away again, the waitress from before stated that they didn't have change and that was the reason they couldn't take the 100, however the "manager" stated it wasn't real, at this point we are embarrassed and annoyed, after another 10 mins of waiting. While the "manager" made a phone call, she finally took the money and brought back our change within seconds..this was soo unnecessary, we were treated like criminals while one waitress laughed, i reminded her that we"ve been there plenty of times in which the manager stated she remembered me, ive always paid with debit, or smaller bills in cash. this needless to say, we will never...
Read moreThis was my new favorite restaurant in Vacaville…. Until tonight. The prices are quite high for an eatery in Vacaville (maybe they forgot that they are not in SF or Napa), but I made excuses because the food was decent to good and the servers seemed kind and thoughtful and it was a new place that needed support. However tonight The dishes all came out at different times, we had to remind our (very nice) server numerous times that several of our dishes had not been served, and we sat and watched people come and go as we waited for our dinner dishes. This would normally have been forgiven and chalked up to a bad night, except for the yellow curry experience.
I have ordered the yellow curry (a staple of mine in most Thai restaurants) at least 5-7 times. Tonight it was runny w floating oil drops. We assumed it was a mistake and graciously asked for a re-do. It was done, but was put in a to go container and was never given to us. When we asked and finally got it, half the curry sauce was missing leaving veggies bare and dry . When we asked for a cup more sauce at the end with leftovers we were told no, we had to buy a new dish. Then a very short, scowling, unkind man with glasses told us we were taking too long and there was a large party that was waiting. Instead of telling him that if the service had not been so uncoordinated and slow and if the food had not been poorly prepared, we would have been finished 30min earlier and he would not have had an opportunity to be SO rude … we paid the over $160 for 3 people and left. I could not let such a bad experience go unreviewed. The place is now officially on my “worst places...
Read moreHad a great dining experience at rice barn. The service was good, friendly, attentive... also enjoyed the plating of meals with lots of cute diningware and options. At times a bit cluttered on the table but nonetheless nice.
Food is great with a couple misses. Spring rolls are noted as 8 pieces but really just two standard size spring rolls cut in 4s. They are served with peanut sauce and a sweet chili sauce, both tasty! Liked the mango in the spring rolls. The lemon chicken was really fantastic, with a nice subtle lemon flavor and super crunchy, savory batter fry. The samosa equally were delicious and freshly prepared, kind of reminded me of a handpie in their make and I loved how buttery and crunchy they were.
The ramen advertised dishes either did not include noodles or noodles were not included in our orders as prepared, though the broth was savory and had a nice bit of umami to the flavor. If the former, then rice is a few extra dollars. The drunken noodles had wonderfully bouncy, wide noodles and tons of protein and veggies, though the beef was a bit tough and chewy. The squid ink noodles were pretty sweet. The Thai iced tea/ coffee are both really delicious. Overall really enjoyed the dining experience though there were some opportunities in the dishes. Thanks for the...
