We love Mellow Mushroom's food and cocktails. Start with the pretzel bites with beer cheese dip--tasty! I usually get a small gourmet white with some modifications/additions and my husband gets something different every time. On our most recent trip, he got a small Pacific Rim and enjoyed it. For drinks, I always get the Sunset in Paradise (delicious!) and husband has tried many of the cocktail options--no complaints, seems like they're all good depending on what you're in the mood for.
The problem with this particular Mellow Mushroom is that it has some of the absolute worst service of any restaurant I've ever been to. Our friends in Valdosta refuse to dine-in anymore and just order it to pick-up. We love Mellow Mushroom and have gone in several different cities knowing that their food and drinks never disappoint. We've never experienced the consistently poor service situation at any other location.
On our most recent trip, we were there for two full hours and not by choice.
The bar is so slow. If you plan to order more than one drink, you'll want to go ahead and order it after the first arrives. The kitchen is also extremely slow, but on this trip we did actually get our appetizer before cocktails...it took 15 minutes to get the pretzel bites and 25 minutes to get our first cocktails (ordered at the same time as appetizers--which was on our server's first visit to our table since we knew what we wanted already).
We ordered our pizzas after the appetizers arrived. Those took about 40 minutes and my pizza was all wrong. By our server's admission that was half his fault and half the kitchen's fault. I asked if he was sure there was no ricotta and he said yes. I asked if they could just add the missing toppings, throw a little more cheese on the pie, and bake it a little longer and he said yes. He later returned to the table, apologizing and said they're just going to make it again the right way, but they'll be faster.
The manager came out and apologized got the mix-up. She asked if we needed more cocktails (we did and had been wanting them and water for some time). We told her we had ordered them with our server and she went to go check the bar. It was still over 10min before the fresh drinks arrived.
When my pizza re-do FINALLY came out, we had been at the restaurant for an hour and 40 minutes. I ate one slice, we asked for boxes and the check. Another 20min later we finally left.
We were paying attention to the time because of travel. We were there from 2:30-4:30 on Sunday afternoon. The kitchen was full of workers, the dining room was at 1/3 capacity maximum, and the bar was 1/4 or less capacity. We ordered an appetizer, 2 pizzas, and 6 cocktails total with our bill being $90-something before the tip. This was not a leisurely Sunday lunch. It was aggravating the whole way through. We should have walked out, but had looked forward to the pizza.
Our server was nice. A lot of things were going wrong over and over. He apologized multiple times, said it had just been one of those days, but he kept a positive attitude. I appreciate that effort.
I don't often write detailed reviews and certainly not BAD detailed reviews. There's a lot more I can say, but I've covered most issues and the kind of problems regularly experienced at this MM. If you're from out-of-town, traveling, or new to the area, skip this MM location for sit-down dining. If you're affiliated with MM and reading this, someone please figure out what the deal is at this location; we'd like to be able to enjoy dining there again...
Read moreI am vegan; I drive a semi truck cross country for a living..and enjoy a vegan pizza from time to time. Mellow Mushroom is a decent option.. although a little pricy compared to cheaper and more delicious vegan pizza joints such as Whole Foods Market. Both my wife and I do GrubHub deliveries occasionally in our free time for a little side money. Anyways..a few weeks ago my wife received a delivery pickup from Mellow Mushroom where she had to call and place the order in advance, so we decided to order a $25 pizza for ourselves while she was at it. I called in to place the order over the phone since they normally take about 45 minutes to prepare it, and the young lady who answered the phone seemed a bit overwhelmed and the call dropped, so I tried to call back for the next 10 minutes but the line was busy. So I asked my wife to call and place the order. (My wife is a 9th grade English Teacher from El Salvador, so she is fluent, but has a bit of an accent like Sofia Vergara). My wife got off the phone and was very upset. She said she felt offended because the young lady said she couldn't understand her English, then hung up. She then called back, but was put on hold indefinitely, so she drove to Mellow Mushroom in person and placed the order there. After the long wait, she got the order and immediatly delivered it to a patient and happy customer. My wife told me the story, so I called and asked if I could speak to the manager about an order. She handed the phone to the manager "Lindsey". I told Lindsey that my wife feels disrespected because she was hung up on due to her accent, and was put on hold indefinetly..which wasted a lot of time. I said that I am not suggesting to fire anyone, but just have a chat with the phone receptionist about proper edicate and how to respond to customers in a more polite manner. She said she understood and offered to provide my wife and I with a $20.00 gift card which I thought was an admirable gesture. WELL. Today I received a Grubhub pickup order from Mellow Mushroom, and I immediatley went to the restruant to ensure the order was in process. Convienently, the same manager "Lindsey" received me, and I asked if I could pick up the gift card she had promised. She recalled the conversation well, then replied "I spoke with (her) and she said she wasn't rude and she didn't hang up the phone and she was polite, so I won't give you a gift card." Then she said "I will tell GrubHub that I don't want you picking up deliveries for us anymore!" Can you imagine the audacity? I order here at least once a month, sometimes I bring my kids.. and she is now being rude to me, and wants to get me in trouble with GrubHub. We certainly won't be eating here again as long as she is employed here. Lindsey is the type of manager who can't take constructive criticism well, and from what I saw during my long wait for the food, she is the one making her staffing stressed out and frantic! I bet with a new manager, the crew would operate much more smoothly. So Lindsey, honey...Let this be a lesson to you. Always treat your staff and customers with dignity and respect, because you are ultimately working for the customers! I'm sure the staff would appreciate a new manager. I'd have a chat with the owner about this instead of writing this review, but I can't find his number. Anyways..be kind, and have a...

We came in, three adults, on a Sunday night at 630pm to a half empty restaurant. We ordered our appetizer and our food at the same time, muffuletta cheese bread, two small pizzas and a calzone. We waited 40 minutes and the waitress had come back to the table once to refill our empty drinks, which had been empty for at least 20 minutes. At this point I asked that she cancel our appetizer because, we wanted something to munch on while we were waiting for our food not another entree and almost immediately she came back with our entrees. One pizza was half burnt the other two entrees were mediocre (which in the past we have all had delicious tasting food from this establishment). I witnessed a different waitress caring food to tables on her arms, which the food not just the plates, were actually touching her arms and chest. Later that same waitress, in the middle of the restaurant wiped her nose on her sleeves while caring two pitchers half full of water. She then stuck her nose into the pitchers to smell the contents. After we had finished our meal we asked for the manager and the check. When Dustin the manager arrived we relived the entire experience for him and he apologized and took half off our check. He then offered us two $10 dollar gift certificates. After the manager left our waitress came back with the check and started to clear the table. I had my debit card in my hand ready to hand her and she walked off and said "have a good night". She never came back for the check. Dustin then showed up at the table with two $15 dollar certificates and we ended up giving him our check. As if this experience couldn't get any worse as Dustin was walking from our table everyone in the back clapped and sarcasticly cheered for him saying "good job Dustin" "way to go Dustin". As were walking out the front door one of the cooks, once again in a sarcastic manner, shouted out to us "sorry for the wait" Needless to say we will not be returning to use our $30 dollars in certificates. If anyone reads this and is willing to chance it I would be more then willing to give you our certificates, just comment below. Don't go to Mellow Mushroom in Valdosta, GA unless you want to spend your money on a place that doesn't care for their customers or treat you with...
