Ladies and gentlemen, lend me your ear for just a few moments while I inform you of why you need Anoush Deli in your life!
Please do not let my first review deter you from making this a daily stop. As soon as you walk in the door you are greeted with warm smiles by the WHOLE staff. Family owned and ran and the owners couldn't be better people. Their love, care, enthusiasm, generosity are just the tip for these two. They answer every question I have, offer suggestions, that are usually better than my own choices, and genuinely make every customer feel amazing and special.
And as much as these two beautiful people make me come back everyday, it isn't even the best part of Anoush Deli. Oh, my the FOOD! I have tried everything on their menu and not one disappointment. The Deli even helped me transition my diet to a Mediterranean one and absolutely loving it.
The gyro is one of the thickest in the state. It is packed full of flavor that is layered perfectly together. Only place in town I can only eat 1 gyro in a sitting.
The chicken is always juicy, tasty (due to how they cook it and with the spices), and filling.
The pride and joy? Their Borscht! I go almost every day with a shopping list: Something new or haven't had in awhile Gyro or chicken 2 large Borscht.
I had to start getting two because my family kept eating it. The Borscht is so good that our family ranges from ages 11 to 63 and EVERYONE loves it. I have really only two complaints about the borscht. The first is that they won't give me the recipe. The second is they won't give me a five gallon bucket of it. 😀
I hope you give Anoush Deli a try because you will go back ... guaranteed! They have awesome food, wonderful owners, better than fantastic borscht, experienced great cooks, friendly staff, and one customer (and his 9 family...
Read moreSweetness indeed! Anoush is an Armenian name, meaning "sweet disposition" or "sweetness" and it really lives up to it's name, offering friendly service and an impressive array of sweets, from Eastern European sodas, ice creams, candies and chocolates, to the many beautiful cakes, pastries, cookies and desserts. But it is the savory fare here that really thrills me. I love the delicious Russian style cabbage rolls (available as a dine-in delicacy or by the pound as a cold take away option), vegetarian Gyros (loaded with Feta on request), the potato Piroshki (heated on request or available cold for take-home), and the vegetarian "French Style Eggplant" from the cold deli case in back (lovely thin slices of grilled eggplant rolled up with a carrot, onion, garlic, dill and sour cream stuffing). Just delicious. Anoush offers a sizable meat case, many baked goods, and lots of hard to find spices, teas and canned and bottled gourmet foods as well. The warmth and friendliness of the staff make it a treat to eat in or shop here. A great selection of Russian, Ukrainian and Eastern...
Read moreSuch an amazing little store. Appears to be family owned and run and the staff is just the best people. Super helpful and super friendly. They'll tell you their whole life story if you want, super chatty great people. I can't think of a better place to shop. They really know their stuff too and can help you pick out the right foods. They have such amazing baked goods, I highly recommend the cheese, forgive me if I spell this wrong, piorgi. It's a pastry filled with real cheese and it's so good. First time I walked in I wondered how I would be greeted since it seems to be a place that catered to mainly Russians and Ukrainians and the other European markets don't seem as friendly to outsiders but I was greeted just as everyone else and I didn't feel out of place at all, they made me feel really welcome. This is literally one of my favorite markets in all of Vancouver. I have yet to try any of their prepared foods but it looks amazing, I'll have to grab lunch their sometime. I'm usually buying tons of European candy from there, such good candy. And cheese too, I love...
