Stood in front of the bar rail chatting with friends for the first 5 minutes, without being acknowledged. It wasnât until we tried to move to the bathroom that the bartender barked at us for IDâs. What a way to say, âHello Welcome inâ đ« I have no problem providing identification. I actually had mine out ahead of time and was trying to determine where I order. I had been to the silver star several times in the last year. Never have I ever been denied service for having an out of state ID. Bartender kept saying itâs a new policy and because the card machine couldnât read my VALID OUT OF STATE Identification card. Yeah, Iâm quite familiar with those machines. Most places have them. My ID always beeps and they always have to get a supervisor to approve itâŠ.and they let me through. My ID does not have an expiration date. Itâs from AZ and theyâre different. As someone who also has an OLCC card, there is absolutely nothing that says you can not accept out of state IDâs or IDâs with no expiration date. How valid is rusty machine you have? Technology isnât full proof. There definitely needs to be a solution for when it canât read OUT OF STATE IDâs. I donât care that you guys werenât properly checking peoples identification before and then got busted so now yâall gotta use a card machine and be âstrictâ. I am 27, I had my ID, and I had been there multiple times prior. The biggest inconvenience of this whole ordeal was the fact that I used UBER to get to silver star. My friends and I walked over to the SPOT where they didnât even blink at my ID card (because itâs valid). The atmosphere at The Spot was ten times better regardless. Service was better, and the drinks were drinking. I used to go to silver star because the location was ideal. However that was the only positive. Yâall need to take a hospitality course and fix how you talk to your guests. Iâm not even mad at the bartender. It was lack of training on her part. Management needs to find a solution for the card reader. Being turned away from a dive bar as a legal adult with a legal identification card was ridiculous. Way to kill the pre...
Read moreThe Karaoke is lively and the service is pretty good. I was going to go down to 4 stars, but can't because there seems to be a lot of drama (people falling over, fights in the parking lot, a shoving match in the dining room, people high AF on more than just alcohol being allowed to buy more, some dude in a tactical vest full of things with a badge on it that ready "SECURITY" - but he was drinking too...how he didn't get checked out is beyond me...and this was all in one 1.5 hr stay the other night!
I figured that not all of this was the establishment's fault, but then I realized that the bathrooms are tiny for such a big place and in disrepair in general. There were boxes of things that should have been in storage and just a general cluttered appearance for a lot of the space that was unused. So I couldn't blame the vibe all on patrons...
HOWEVER! Tthere are many pool tables - probably the closest thing to an actual billiards hall in all of Vancouver. The ladies working are good at their jobs (I just wonder if there needs to be someone at the door or running legit security because there are a lot of nice couples and groups of friends who come in...not to mention folks who just want to play pool, sing karaoke, or learn to line dance and have safe fun). Which brings me to one of the other defining features: there is a legit country line dancing culture here - they do classes for free and then the place feels like a country bar quite a bit.
You will have fun here, just keep your head on a swivel for when those around you have...
Read moreWent here for karaoke the first time a few months ago. The karaoke hostess had a dog with her who was really sweet, she kept a good rotation for the singers, and made it really fun for everyone. Even when busy, I got to sing 3-4 songs in a night.
I don't go out often but decided to try this place again this past Saturday night. I got there at 6 to get some dinner first and I thought karaoke was staying at 7 still. Apparently it starts at 9 now. So we played darts for a couple hours and got more drinks. There is a new karaoke guy who seemed nice. I put a song in and was first up. I put my second song in right after. I was hoping to be out of there by 10, but by 11 I still hadn't sang my 2nd song, yet a bunch of other people who signed up after me had already sang 2-3 times at this point. I asked the KJ what was up and he said they were paying him a lot of money to sing a lot so "sorry". Didn't tell me I'd be next or anything since I'd already been patiently waiting 2 hours for my turn.
I used to be a KJ for 4 years. I understand the bribe game, I get it. But I spent $80 in the bar that night just because I came out for karaoke, but I guess in order to sing, just being a bar patron isn't enough. I won't be going back as long as that KJ is there. He clearly has no clue what he's doing. There were really long breaks between songs and he kept wandering off and couldn't seem to multitask. It's a bummer because the food is really good and the service...
