I am so very disappointed at the food that I received from El jefe's today I'm a single mother of three and I really I debated with myself if I was going to actually treat myself to a nice meal and spend the money or to save the money and eat chicken nuggets with my kids after giving out baths and laying my kids down for the night I finally decided I was going to go ahead and spend the money and treat myself to a nice dinner and watch my latest episode that came on today I'm just kind of have a nice relaxing night before my busy week ahead. So I went ahead and ordered the El jefe special a side order of chips and queso and a large horchata large horchata was good no problems I was very disappointed in the food though like extremely so much so that I instantly regretted spending the $40 that I spent to get the food that I wanted get the drink that I wanted and have it delivered the cheese when I opened it had a very small thing of hair and the chips tasted still like they've been sitting out since last night also with the El jefe special it usually comes with the sauce to dip the tacos and stuff in my I'll have a special did not come with it and it kind of ruin the whole meal for me because the sauce is kind of what makes the dish for me that's why I like the dish so much cuz I love the sauce. So I called the store I talked to the lady and told her everything that was wrong and she goes oh I'll talk to the manager and I'll call you back in 5 minutes after waiting a little bit she called me back and her response was we can refund you for the chipS and queso and in my head I'm like are you serious you're going to refund me $6 out of the $40 that I just spent I shook my head and told her that that was poor customer service and I hope she had a good night and hung up Anyways I never really write reviews however I felt like I had to let this out really it wasn't even about writing a review it was letting it out the frustration the disappointment the regret that I felt for spending the money when I could have just saved it kind of...
Read moreWorst mexican food truck in all of Vancouver. I go up and I order and it ends up taking 15 minutes for two things. I order the birria taco and a jeffe burrito. When I finally make it home and get in to my food I realize my taco is cold even though they burned the styrofoam from putting the corn tortillas in the box, so that tells me they finished it quickly but just let it sit there considering I live literally a block away from this place. I open my burrito hoping it would be better and then realize its a wet burrito, even though no where on the menu stating it was a wet burrito. Im like fine what ever and take a bite and its the most digusting ranchera sauce Ive ever had, its like they stewed tomatos with a ton of sugar then slathered it over my burrito. It tasted like someone took prago, put cumin and coriander in it deciding it to call it ranchera sauce. I was so mad I just threw it away instead of returning it lesson learned. Especially when you have Victoricos and delicious taco truck minutes away. Sad thing is I enjoy anglosized mexican food as much as the next person but im not paying those prices while sitting outside, when theres literally better mexican mexican food minutes away.
Edit: No mention of the burned Styrofoam. 15 minutes for a restaurant is standard wait time, not an empty taco truck with out side seating in 100degree heat. When I get a burger and it says topped with Lto cheese and bacon, I'm not expecting them to cover my burger in it so the word you're looking for is covered because who in their right mind wants to eat a wet burrito to go. I generally give bad food a second or third chance but after that reply I'll just wait till they finally replace it with another food truck within the year to even...
Read moreEl Jefe Birria has the reputation for having a great breakfast burrito. I visited early. The truck looked closed and I almost drove away when I noticed a small neon sign saying "Open." I ordered the PDX burrito without hash browns or sour cream. They gave a pager to let you know when your order is ready. When I unwrapped the sizable burrito, I discovered it had been cut in half. The paper it was in was cut too. This was helpful for a photo but challenging to eat because when it's cut it leaks easier. As a result, it dripped on my pants. I then used the outer paper to catch liquid. If I were to order it again, I would ask for it to be uncut.
The orange habanero sauce came in little packets like mustard or ketchup. This is unusual for a Mexican truck. Usually they come in the little clear cups with lids. I found the packets harder to open. Luckily I had a knife in my car.
As I mentioned before, the burrito was sizable but I was disappointed to see it was 75% eggs. The steak and bacon was tasty but there just wasn't that much. I should mention that it wasn't very hot either. I'm not sure why that was. I'm sure they made it fresh as I was the first customer of the day.
A side note, while I was there, a Don Pancho truck made a delivery. Most likely they get there tortillas and chips from them. Unfortunately the photo of the inside of the burrito was accidentally deleted. Lame.
El Jefe had a good burrito but at this writing, Crave Grill and Buenos Dias have the best breakfast burrito I've had in Vancouver so far. Check out my profile for more great eateries and craft cocktail bars....
