I call to ask if they could use tamari instead of soy sauce for gluten free. It was someone who didn't know the answer apparently and I went on to say the place in nw i went often cooked my food separately and I never had a problem. The response was that if I "really was allergic" that I probably shouldn't eat there. I was fine with the answer and would have been ok being placed on a hold to find the answer but not ok with the comment "really allergic" yes I am a celiac and yes there are several reatraunts I enjoy and dont get sick but the attitude that someone is faking an allergy or not wanting to take the time because its assumed I eat that way for a trend is not ok. This is why I am so cautious eating out. Even if I was avoiding gluten for dietary reasons not autoimmune reactions including hives and neuropathy it's a restraunt where food is served and I shouldn't be made to feel like I have to defend my nourishment. I worked as a bartender and server 13 years and had alot of regular customers who only sat with me and would wait. I 1000 percent understand why now after being diagnosed and having constant health problems due to my late diagnosis. Very poor experience on the phone and if anyone is considering eating here who is celiac OR gluten sensitive I would steer clear. I am a very thin person as well now die to malabsorption issues and many times I am told "I don't need to be on a diet". I honestly haven't heard it that blatantly before mabey because it was a phone call if I am "really allergic" I would think twice about who answers the phone if it was my place of business especially since the huge lawsuit in London where a restaurant owner was put into prison for serving peanut flour in place of almond. I personally know someone annaflact to dairy as well. The business is food. Feeding people who are hungry and they leave happy. Instant gratification I always felt when I was in the restaurant. I am grateful the location near tannisborn is so accommodating and I have never had to mention my autoimmune issues one time. Stating gluten free food absolutely fine. The gentleman uses separate utensils even. I am a huge overtipper because I know the physical aspect of waiting on people and I am so appreciative to be able to eat out and have someone cook for me and serve me food. At least there are some places that are safe. 😋. Tamari or gf soy sauce is no more than 3 dollars. That's the...
Read moreI have been going to this place ,since 1980....the owners now were not there in 1980...ive had my kids and grandkids eating there...it was a family tradition....until my granddaughter started working there....she did a good job for M.never had a compliant about her work, was told she was a favorite with customers....my granddaughter was part time...the young man that's working there now,was abusive to my grandaughter, calling her names and even threatened her bodily harm...she stood up to him and because he was full time and the owner fired my granddaughter, because she didn't want to pay him unemployment...this is what was told to my granddaughter..she was also told she could come back to work there anytime this man wasn't working there...so I have spent a lot of money eating here, and like I said it was apart of my family and to have my granddaughter threated with harm and called names in front of the owner M...she didn't stick up or try and help her..i have kept quiet for almost 2 years...my granddaughter didn't want to be hurt anymore, and there is plenty of other things customers don't know about.i will respect my grandaughters wishes and not say...its wrong to treat someone like this, all in the name of money....M you were wrong and I don't know how you live with your self....you sold my...
Read moreWent to dinner last night with a small group. This was our default spot, as the first place we went was too busy, and we didn’t want to wait an hour. We should have just waited, lesson learned..
When we walked in, the place looks unmaintained, dingy, had a dive bar quality. We were seated quickly, as we were only one of two groups in the place at 5pm on a Friday night. This also should have been telling.
We discussed going elsewhere, because we were all concerned by the vibe and overall cleanliness of the place, but we were already seated and worried about being rude…
We all ordered various items (steak, chicken, shrimp, scallops), and everything from the rice, veggies to steak, all had a fishy quality. We ate a small bit, and paid quickly and left. Every member of our group was almost immediately struck with stomach pains and intense flatulence.
While I do not think anyone got food poisoning, all of our bodies rejected the meal violently, and we will never be back. Place needs better maintenance, to be cleaned from top to bottom, and I am concerned about the temperatures which they are keeping their food. Extremely dissatisfied, largely disgusted, will not return. Beware of this establishment unless frequent bathroom trips for the next 24 hours is what you are...
