The Old Venice Pub — Restaurant in Venice

I vacation in Venice once a year and we always look forward to visiting The Old Venice Pub with my partner and father in law. We walked in there this evening and the bartender was rude and short with us while we each ordered a beer. She gave us our total and my 70 year old father in law pulled cash out from his pocket to pay for our tab. After he handed her the money she counted it real quick and said very snootily “oh, you do know how to count” implying that he was somehow incompetent. We had been in the pub less than a total of 45 seconds during this whole interaction. If we hadn’t already have purchased our drinks we would’ve walked out immediately.

After years of looking forward to coming to The Old Venice Pub this has put a stain on our memories here.

Very sad night for us. First to feel so completely disrespected and second to feel unwelcome in a place we always looked forward to going.

The term dive bar often refers to a place where one would not like to be found, but for many of us, this is a place where we escape to. Nestled in the far end of Venice Avenue, there lies an uncrowded bar that specializes in only beer and wine. Yes, it is a dive bar. There isn't much to be found other than an open air establishment that has a nice small balcony from which you can enjoy your beverage, get out of the sun, and watch the world pass by below. Yes, smoking is allowed here so for many, that will be it's downfall. I've learned to sit upwind, and it really wont bother you much. Service has always been friendly, and it does seem to cater to the local residents here. Wish there were more places like...

We paid our hard earned money to the juke box. Little did we know, the bartender was committing fraud by adding in songs without proof of receipt (I did ask for that). Additionally, he asked us for credit card payment after we paid by cash. This place must be in dire straits if they’re double charging customers and not letting them play the music they want.
