Read moreIn simplicity, the customer service was appallingly subpar. Customer service is just as important to me as the food quality that a restaurant has to dish out. It makes or breaks whether or not I will go back to the restaurant and I will not be going back to Upper Crust Cafe without question. There are much better restaurants to discover with uber-friendlier service and tastier food located along Venice Island's main street.
Long story, I stopped there once to have breakfast with my son outside in one of the umbrella shaded tables and told the waitress inside beforehand I was going to be sitting outside there, so they can be aware and come take our order. After waiting 15 minutes (and also know the joint wasn't even close to having a busy full house then), I decided to head back in to gently remind them we were outside. The waitress finally came with apologies and took our order. The food was served in a timely manner by a young waiter who wordlessly just plopped down our food and disappeared without giving us any utensils or our drinks. I had to go back inside and ask for our drinks and utensils. The eggs and turkey bacon my son ordered were quite noticeably and without exaggeration dripping with grease and the fruit tart. I ordered a crab cake benedict, which was very salty, but getting past the saltiness of it, was admittedly somewhat tasty. After breakfast, I went inside to get the check and the woman behind the cashier counter said to just wait for my waitress, whom I haven't even seen since she took our order. I sat down back outside with my son and chatted away, but after 10 or so minutes the waitress was a no show. I had to ask another waitress serving the other table next to mine to get our check, which she eventually did. My only consolation for regrettably going here was that I did not decide to give out an...

The food was good, our waitress was very friendly and attentive, the ambiance of the establishment was on the rustic, antique site. Also very clean.
I really enjoyed my Smoked Salmon Hash here, the taste was new to me but very enjoyable! My two sausages that I ordered on the side we're quite larger than I expected, but still very high quality. Everything tasted fresh and nothing was overly greasy.
Being in my early 40s we were the youngest people there, so be prepared to feel a our of place if you're younger than 40.
My wife and I also enjoyed a very large eclair there, after breakfast, and it was good. After tasting of the awesome food there, I was expecting a little more flavors from the eclair, but definitely wasn't bad.
My only real gripe was the serving sizes of the meals. They are a little on the small side for me. But I'm also 6'3 and weigh about 240lbs, so take that as you like. Also my second complaint, which is a small one, is that the entrance/waiting area is VERY narrow as it's only about 3-4 ft from the bakery display. So, if your waiting in line for a seat, and there's people waiting to be attended by the baker next to the display, you're practically touching shoulders with those people looking I to the display.
But, that's all small potatoes (pun intended) compares to the taste and...
