I guess I should have played closer attention to the one star reviews because now, here I am. Read them and take heed. No exaggeration. The owner is rude, uncaring and downright unprofessional. I was a party of one and it was made very clear that I was not worthy of their time and attention. I sat outside at one of the umbrella tables which is where any measure of pleasantness stopped. The glass of water I requested (about 10 minutes after sitting with no server in sight) took 45 minutes to get to my table!!!! Next to me was sat a table of four and then another two top. The waitress, Christine, would frequent the other tables to bring them things, refill water and see what they needed and I practically did cartwheels attempting to get her attention after she would bolt by my table each and every time. I finally was able to get an order in and I was mad enough at this point that I just ordered a caesar salad tossed with half the dressing they normally would use and the rest put on the side. Well, that didn't happen and no amount of my antics to garner attention would yield results. As a last resort, I leapt out of my seat and blocked her way as she chatted up the table next to me and turned to pass me by again. I insisted that I receive the remaining dressing I had requested be put on the side. The water at the neighboring tables was refilled multiple times but no such luck as Christine darted past my table each time with a water pitcher in hand. I was never asked if I needed anything, if everything was ok, which it obviously wasn't, and then to add insult to injury, I could not get my check. I had a theatre ticket and this fine dinner of a salad and a glass of water had taken nearly two hours and I was about to be late for the theatre. With no options left, I went to the hostess stand to tell the owner of my experience and her attitude and demeanor were astounding. How are they even in business at all? Do people really pay to be treated this way? This woman could care less, took ZERO interest in my predicament and left me standing there after uttering some words under her breath. I whipped out my checkbook (Yes, my check book! I didn't have cash an no credit cards are accepted. Are they kidding in 2018? Who carries cash?) and wrote out a check to pay my tab and left a 10% tip which Christine wholeheartedly DID NOT deserve. Such a shame because I have eyed this place more than a few times when going to the theatre and thought how lovely it would be to have a nice dinner here and walk across the street to the theatre. Well, as it turns out, I wish I hadn't and I never will again. There are MANY other options in Venice that would welcome my business and treat me with courtesy which is something this restaurant is not capable of doing. Do yourself a favor and find one of those other places. I...
Read moreI really wanted to give this place 5 stars but unfortunately I just can't. First off we went on a Sunday and it wasn't all that busy however we stood for 10 minutes without even being acknowledged and then it still took another 5 minutes before we were seated. (We were the only ones at the front waiting) We were served a large basket of garlic bread with the Luna Lava which was amazing (but I'll get back to that at the end) I ordered the capellini pasta with pesto sauce which I loved and the portion size was enormous. My husband ordered the lasagna however when he sliced into it, it was ICE cold in the middle and I mean ICE cold. So we had to call the waiter over to have him send it back to be heated. At that point I'm already eating. It took them over 20 minutes before they finally brought his lasagna back out to him at which time I was already completely done eating and ready to go and now he's just being served his meal. He said the lasagna was ok but there was so much cheese that he actually choked on a piece of it because it was so stringy. Then When the guy came over to ask us if we wanted to box up our leftovers which there was a ton of we said yes. There was also still a half a jar of the luna lava and 5 or 6 pieces of garlic bread which we assumed he would box up for us as well because he took it with him. But he didn't. That grosses me out because it leads me to wonder if they are re-using the luna lava and garlic bread for the next customer...??? We double dipped our bread a few times in that jar and my husband ate off of the spoon and stuck it back in the jar. I can't think of another reason why it wasn't given to us with our left overs if not for them re-using it. I really wanted to like this place as it was recommended to me by a co-worker who loves it. I wish our experience was better. Our server did seem very attentive and was extremely helpful but the fact we waited so long and got served cold food is truly sad. Also they are a little pricey in my opinion. Granted you get HUGE portions that could easily be shared but me and my husband don't generally eat the same things. Our bill was over $70 for just 2 plates of pasta and 2 glasses of wine.... I kinda felt that we shouldn't have been charged for the cold lasagna as it was cold and then he had to wait 20 minutes for them to "re-heat" it but whatever I guess we'll just have to find another Italian spot. It's sad because it seems like this place has potential. I would love for an inspector to go in there and see if they are really re-using the luna lava and...
Read moreIm a long time advocate and fan of lunas. My poor review is in hope the wonderful owners see it. This year, November 2022, everything everyone loved. Is gone. The lava isn't even red, seems to be 50% celery now, no heat, the cheddar is almost non distant. At a table of 9 people we got 2 bread that quickly ran out, had to chase down the waiter multiple times. Drinks were never refilled the meal, nor bread, brushetta, napkins ect... But the the hardest part, is that since in our opinion they didn't raise prices they cut the quality what was... Severely. Every one of the different dishes were sub par what lunas used to be. The shrimp scampi serving size for 2-3 people had 6 shrimp on the entire dish, no garlic flavor only plain butter and pasta. Chicken alfredo was a microwavable joke. Caesar salad is stock what you expect, at least it's romane. Fried motzerella is literally 4 pieces at 10$ of bland but the marinara is exceptional and great. Pizza hadn't changed its good, the cheese is good, topping quantity is good. Overall bill was almost 300$ before drinks. Our parties assessment was maybe since inflation and costs went up, lunas cut costs and quality to keep prices down. Nothing on the table except the marinara dipping sauce was remarkable, we come here for mom and pop personal touch, quality, and care. We expected to pay more then fast food franchise joints for better then frozen cookie cutter. Please pick your lane Lunas and bring the quality back. Charge appropriately or be another big name box store franchise. It was a birthday meal last night and I talked it way up. Only seeing the waiter twice the entire meal on top the quality cliff drop off... I don't think I can talk my friends and birthday girl into ever returning and nobody Amoung us is the Karen type, we are all working class in the service industry some even in food service. Sorry...
