Where to start? Well, my fiancee and I were craving some steaks for dinner and instead of eating at home we decided to dine out. We chose Black Angus for our dinner destination because we had a coupon (Campfire for Two feast) which included two entrees, one appetizer, and one dessert. All this costs about $44 excluting tax and tip. Our waiter (Isaiah) was wonderful. He always checked in with us frequently to make sure all of our needs were being met. Once we were ready, we put in our order. For the appetizer we chose the grilled artichoke. This artichoke was slightly seasoned with salt, pepper and some olive oil. It came with two sauces on the side. I believe one was a mayo lemon sauce, but I could be mistaken. The artichoke was delicious. It was seasoned perfectly. It had a nice charred flavor from the grill. The sauces surprisingly went well with the artichoke, but I actually enjoyed it just by itself. We then proceeded to order our entrees. We both decided to go with the 12oz Ribeye steaks. The ribeye steaks cost $3 extra per steak, but we wanted ribeye. This is where the 4 stars come in. I ordered my steak medium rare, but when my steak arrived and I cut in to the steak, it looks medium to medium well. I advised the waiter it was not to my liking, but I did not want to be rude and I let him know I would keep it and give it a shot. As I was cutting the steak, it was slightly tough. It was not tough enough to chew for hours, but it was not tender enough for my liking. To make things a bit worse. I had to (and I repeat) i had to grab the salt shaker and add salt to my steak. It just was not seasoned well. I ate small bites, but I saved the rest for my daughter since she likes her steaks a bit medium. For dessert, we ordered the cheesecake with a strawberry sauce. I must say...i am not a cheesecake fan, but I oddly enjoyed this one. Maybe I was just hungry from not finishing my steak. At the end, i can say that Black Angus in Ventura, Ca is good for the most part. The service was great, the food was not bad and if you get a bad steak, you can have the waiter take it back and get a fresh one. I just chose not to do that. Oh and I can not forget the complementary bread and butter. The bread is delicious. It is a must have. For the most part, I would recommend Black Angus....
Read moreTook my wife here, at her request, for her birthday on a Monday. I had made a reservation but it was not necessary due to minimal customers present. Our server was Kristen, who was attentive. I ordered a beer and my wife ordered vodka & cranberry. Beer was lukewarm (but I didn't complain cuz waitress was busy and it was my wife's bday). Wife did mention that her drink tasted like cranberry juice and melted ice. We were asked if we wanted bread and butter, which was served in a very small cold portion. We ordered the campfire feast for two. My chicken and ribs were perfectly cooked with the broccoli too al dente for me. The au gratin potatoes were good but very small portion. My Wife had filet mignon, which looked liked a charred sirloin that had been over cooked and was dry. Server was very busy and seemed stretched a bit too far with assigned customers so we didn't complain. The way our food was cooked seemed a bit inconsistent and not as requested. But again, no complaints because it was wife's bday and she feared she would not receive her food if she sent back to the kitchen. Place was not very crowded but got busy as the evening progressed. Bar area seemed a bit empty. Total for two with drinks and food was $78.93, plus on your receipt they have "recommended" gratuity calculations, which I don't appreciate. I am a good tipper and don't need direction or instruction. Since my wife's favorite cut is filet mignon and she was not happy with the dry charred piece she received, I'm not certain we will return due to her...
Read moreWe love Black Angus, but this particular visit was by far the worst service we've ever had there. It was like our server was on something. She was friendly and polite but kept forgetting all about us. Took about 10 mins for her to acknowledge us, but she brought some bread out soon after. However, it took another 30 mins to get our drinks, but the special teas she had to get from the bar took another 15 mins, and one was completely wrong. The appetizer came soon after that, but it was all room temperature and had obviously been sitting awhile. Our soups and salads came about 30 mins after that and we had less than 5 mins before our food showed up and since there was no room on the table we abandoned our salads by stacking them together on the edge of the table...where they stayed throughout or meal. Throughout all this time, we never saw her in between the rare occasions that she came to our table. However, we did see lots of other servers quite often. We had to ask one of them to track down our server 45 mins after our food came so we could order dessert that came with our campfire feast. All in all, we were there almost 3 hours. The table across from us had a couple with their daughter, and they were just as neglected. I marveled at how these amazing parents kept their small child entertained during their long visit. Most kids would've been bouncing off the walls in boredom. Wish I could say we'll be back, but honestly, it was horrible service, almost comical, which led to food that had been sitting way too long before...
