China Kitchen is excellent. I went for the first time for a late lunch with a coworker and was a little worried when we saw the place was empty. We have it a shot anyway and were extremely pleased with our meals. I don't know if everybody only shows up at noon or if word just hasn't gotten out how good the food here is, but the relatively inexpensive lunch specials we had were some of the best Chinese food I've had in Ventura county.
I had the sesame chicken with fried rice and a hot & sour soup. I grew a Chinese restaurant on the quality of their hot & sour soup decays it's not an easy thing to make with a good balance of flavors. Theirs is great. Not too sour, not too sweet, and not oily like many I've had elsewhere. The sesame chicken was lightly breaded with a sweet, but not too sweet, sauce, and the chicken itself was super tender and clearly of high quality. The fried rice was just right, as well.
I highly recommend giving China Kitchen a shot. Their prices and food quality are unbeatable, and the server was very friendly. I promise you will not be...
Read moreWe've been going to this Chinese restaurant for close to 40 years---maybe more. When my kids were little this was their favorite place and they're both well over 40 now. Through all the changes in ownership (and restaurant names) it has remained the best Chinese restaurant in Ventura, and we like it as good or better as any Chinese restaurants we've been to across the country. It did have a little hiccup not long ago (in years)--not sure why. I assumed it was because of another change in ownership. When it slipped we stopped eating Chinese altogether because no other place compared to what it once was. Not long ago my son told me that our favorite Chinese place was "back," the food was great again--and it is. If you're like us and quit going because it seemed to be not as good as it once was, you can return---it's as good or better...
