TL: DR - Average food dished out before being finished.
Bubba's website is still "under construction," so I included a photo of the menu because wow I really wanted to know what I was walking into. Restaurant was sparkling clean. Prices are pretty average, and most things are a la carte. If you pay by card they add 4% to your bill. The woman at the counter was wonderful. The two men cooking in the back should probably not complain about working there, and swear so much - we can hear you in the dining area. I ordered a cheeseburger, chicken sandwich, and side of fries, then waited there for my order to be done. It came out too quickly; as another reviewer mentioned, things were undercooked.
The cheeseburger was just like one you might get at a bowling alley or drive-in concession stand: a cheap frozen patty with one slice of American cheese on a supermarket bun. Bland, and came complete with bone and cartilage fragments in the beef mix. Bland. Can I please say again how bland the meat was? Bland.
The chicken sandwich was also something from the freezer on the same bun. It got a few extra points because it was a larger than average chunk of chicken. It lost those points when the inside was just barely cooked enough. The seasoning in the pre-made cutlet's breading added some much needed flavor. Otherwise, it was rather average.
The fries were most definitely fresh-cut, because if you look at the photos below, you can see the little square piece of potato with a hole in it. This is from the machine used to cut them. Maybe take those out? Sadly, most of these fries were underdone. The thinner pieces were a bit closer to being crispy, but not nearly as much as they should have been. Really undercooked, kind of soggy, and didn't even come with salt on them.
Will most likely not be back. Really a shame, as I had high hopes...
Read moreWhen I heard they were opening a hot dog place on 94 in Vernon I thought "what a great idea ". Apparently lots of people thought the same thing, judging by the crowds they had in their first week or so.
Unfortunately, I don't think they'll last long. This is basically a lunch joint in a bedroom community, which I don't believe has enough local industry to support it. It's way down off 94, so there's also zero curb appeal.
For Bubba's to succeed they need to establish a niche of customers who make it a point to go there on a regular basis. Quite frankly, between the location, the prices and the menu, I don't see that happening. The hot dogs are $3.75 each, which ain't cheap for a dog. Even more annoying is they hit you with a surcharge for using plastic, which is such an outdated concept for 2024.
Any good hot dog joint has their signature dogs with a unique combination of ingredients. The closest Bubba's comes to that is with the "All The Way" which is onions, chili and mustard. Any other dog is your standard dog with up to 3 of the usual toppings you pick.
If you haven't been there yet and want to give it a try, hurry on down. Unless they make major changes I don't see them making...
Read moreBeing a big fan Texas weiners, dogs all the way, and being used to the fare at places such as the Hot Grill, Coffee Grill, Libbys, and Johnny and Hanges, I was cautiously optimistic when I heard a Texas weiner joint opened up in our are. My wife and I decided to give Bubba's a try this past weekend. Saddly we were very disappointed. The outside table was filthy with dried up stick blotches of ketchup and grease stains. As others have said the "hand cut fries" were soggy and undercooked. The Texas weiners were terrible, the chili sauce was oddly, very sweet and the onions were no finely chopped as is standard but rather large chunks that seemed to have been cooked somehow, more of an onion relish than the traditional raw onion. Perhaps that is what led to the un-palatable sweetness. We both ordered two all the way and neither of us even took a bite of the second dog. And of course most of the fries were thrown away as well. Again the entire meal was very disappointing. We will not be returning and do not recommend...
