My mom and I were heading down to go back home to the Rio Grande Valley. We don’t tend to stop and eat dine-in on road trips and in this occasion we decided to after craving for a sit-down meal. First, the host, Robin, greeted my mom and I with such a friendly smile and during check-out we spoke for a bit and she mentioned she knew where McAllen, TX was. A Symphonic Band competition had brought her down to see the RGV. She said she had played the flute and that really struck me as my sisters did as well! That conversation made the place feel like a real diner. A place with great breakfast and even better people. Second, the waitress, Lauren, was really awesome as well. My mother only speaks Spanish so I had to translate certain items of mothers order. Lauren was great and was patient and kind with us when taking our order. I really appreciated that. On top of that all, I noticed she handled many tables and yet managed to be timely. You could tell that the workers here are not only hard working but caring. Lastly, I would like to thank the leadership at this Denny’s for really up keeping and maintaining a great ambience for any and all who come. I spoke with the GM Liz during checkout and she was also so kind and vibrant. It had me leaving with a lot of happiness. So much so, that as my mother and I are currently on the road as I’m writing this. I usually, nap or sing along😂I just couldn’t wait to write this review. I’m exceptionally pleased. All in all, the staff at this location was really exceptional. The energy and warmth in this location will have us coming back every time we pass by Victoria, TX. Thank you to the people working at this location and God bless the staff and anyone reading this...
Read moreI’m not quite sure where to begin with this review. My girlfriend and I decided to take a chance on Dennys rather than the IHOP across the road for breakfast. The waitress was a bit slow but alright, about what you can expect for a restaurant like this. The main issue with this restaurant was the food. I ordered chocolate milk, crepes with strawberries, and the rest of the combo meal (Eggs, hash browns, bacon/sausage). The drinks arrived maybe 5 minutes after ordering but the chocolate milk was a half mixed horrible tasting white milk with a bit of chocolate syrup added to the bottom. As if the taste of this drink wasn’t enough there were little bits the bottom of the drink which I hopefully assume were crystallized pieces of the syrup. I told the waitress about the very disappointing and disgusting taste she informed me she could take it off of my bill and offered a different drink. I thanked her for taking the strange tasting milk away and just requested a water. About 15 minutes later our food arrives to the table and my crepes are DRENCHED in strawberry sauce. It looked as if they had become an island floating in a sea of strawberry sauce, soggy and cold with no hopes of ever tasting good as soon as it was seen. The rest of the combo was alright nothing wrong aside from the odd shriveled up, slightly gross looking scrambled eggs. My appetite for breakfast was destroyed as soon as I looked at those horrid drowning crepes.
Overall a VERY disappointing experience and if you are thinking of eating here please just go to the IHOP across the road. By some miracle you do I don’t advise you get the crepes or...
Read moreThis review is a sad one for me. It is not a reflection of the restaurant so much as it is a reflection of the economy as a whole. We arrived at exactly 11AM on a Sunday. The IHOP next door had a visual line outside the door so my two boys and I decided to opt for Denny's. Upon walking inside it was obvious that they were extremely short staffed. Stacks of plates of were sitting on a third of the tables. One visibly overworked server was attempting to manage a 12 table section by herself. The back was no better as I only saw three service staff attending the tables in the whole restaurant. We put our food order in at 11:08 AM and received our food at 12:13PM, just over an hour wait for three plates of pancakes, eggs and hash browns. The restaurant was only at half seating capacity, but easily at 150% capacity with the staff that were working. I wish I could say this is a rare occurrence but it is becoming more and more common as these jobs are becoming harder to fill. Being a business owner myself I know the constant struggle of finding good people to work or even show up for shifts. Everywhere you look there are "help wanted" signs and nobody applying. I do not claim to know all of the political and economical factors that have led to this labor crisis but I can say that when the government pays people more money to sit and not work than they can make from low end jobs then their is a problem with both our business economics and political landscape. Denny's was always a childhood favorite for me growing up as a child and perhaps I am witnessing the end of a dynasty but it saddens me...
