My first visit to The Sandwich Shop was at 2:30 PM on Wednesday, July 19th, and my second visit was on the following Friday at 4:00 PM. I liked the industrial-style interior architecture with walls painted dark gray, almost black, and the ceiling also painted dark gray with exposed ductwork that is painted semi-gloss black. The inverted cone-shaped hanging lights added a nice touch. The sandwich production area is designed for efficiently making sandwiches, and ordering at the counter was easy. The order taker was affable. TSS comfortably seats about 45 people inside and has a small, attractive alfresco area in front.
TSS offers a wide variety of sandwiches on its menu, along with a reasonable selection of potato chips, soda, and beer to choose from. On my first visit, I ordered a Reuben Sandwich, Mama Zuma Potato Chips, and a draft Senate American Light Lager beer. Though I was dining in, the sandwich was delivered to my table in a brown bag, and the presentation was of gift-wrapped quality. All of the sandwich's ingredients were fresh and flavorful, well-proportioned. However, the rye bread used for the sandwich did not stand up to the moisture of the sauerkraut and dressing, becoming soggy. In my opinion, Jewish Rye would be a better choice of bread.
On my second visit, I ordered a Tuna Salad Sandwich consisting of Albacore Tuna, sliced tomato, leaf lettuce, and mayo on multi-grain bread, along with MZPC and SALL. Again, all the sandwich ingredients were fresh and perfectly proportioned, resulting in a delicious, well-crafted sandwich that was also gift-wrapped. The table I sat at to enjoy my food had a very worn and sticky top. Additionally, the wall that the tables are against had chipped paint in line where chair...
Read moreVisited late on Saturday morning after hearing about the pork and broccolini sandwich. Atmosphere was lively without being too noisy. A welcome sight was families eating with their kids, especially for a local place. Service seemed efficient and focused. I ordered two sandwiches: a BLTA (bacon, lettuce, tomato, and avocado) and a pork and broccolini with double meat. I also got a scoop of the curried chicken salad and the sweet potato puffs. My order was ready in about ten minutes and given to me by a friendly staffer.
The BLTA had a satisfying ratio of the four ingredients along with a good textured and flavored ciabatta. A little less mayonnaise for my taste would have perfected this combination, but overall I would order this sandwich again. The curried chicken salad has plenty of chicken, bright yellow color from the subtle curry flavoring, and enough accents from the raisins to bring everything together. The pork and broccolini was well-proportioned with the double meat and made eating this vegetable rather enjoyable. The pork itself had good flavor and only a touch dry for me. Cheese was just enough for me. I could have used more mustard to lend more sharpness. Like the first sandwich I would order again. The sweet potato puffs have a soft texture and a pleasant flavor. Could they be warmer though?
Good to know where this place sits a block away from Chain Bridge Road nearby a few other familiar names. As long as parking holds available, I can see making return visits for a...
Read moreMy friend and I ordered one sandwich that we were going to split. And the cashier that was a lady working, at the time told us is going to be 15 minutes. We said no problem then went next-door. We come back 15 minutes later told us it still wasnât ready, so we left and went to get coffee and then we come back, it was still not ready. New cashier was a guy. Weâre looking for a order which clearly itâs been lost or somebody has taken it. I Explained it to the cashier who could give less of a care in the world about our order problem and had an attitude which I did not appreciate, because I was more than patient for the last 30 minutes for our order. He didnât apologize about the order being lost either. It gets remade at reasonable time. But as he was calling my name, he rolled his eyes as if he thought, I didnât hear him call my name. I donât understand that the people who are your customers that pay your paycheck and keep the doors open, how can you be so rude to them. The sandwich was good, the service...
