Fugu Sushi — Restaurant in Violet Township

My wife and I had seen Fugu Sushi in passing when going to watch movies at the Marcus cinema. We had discussed giving it a try sometime, hoping that it would be another casual sushi restaurant to add to our rotation. So before we did i looked Fugu up on Google and read the raving reviews and thought...well its gotta be good with 20+ reviews while maintaining a 4.3 out of 5 star rating. Boy were we in for a surprise.

My only guess as to why the experience we had was far from what had been reviewed is that either the locals haven't had the pleasure of experiencing GOOD casual sushi dining, or they are comparing this place, and giving it reviews based solely upon Grocery Store or Mini Mart sushi.

To make a long story short, The service was lackluster at best, the appetizers of spring rolls took FAR TOO LONG to bring to the table (20+ min), and once they arrived, they tasted like something that came from the grocers freezer. After waiting another 20 or so more minutes we finally received our main course of sushi. By this time we were already annoyed at how long everything was taking, how our waiter never came by to check on us, and the appetizers lack of quality, that mentally we had already checked out. So on top of all of that, was the sushi horrible? No. But it wasn't good by any measure. I honestly have had better sushi from Kroger. And the cherry on top was that the sushi itself was poorly wrapped making it extremely difficult to handle.

All in all don't waste your time with Fugu Sushi. There are much better places to experience a casual sushi restaurant such as this. And if you love Fugu Sushi, you definitely need to try some other Sushi restaurants, chances are your minds are going to e blown if you gave this place a 5 star rating. there may not be better sushi in Pickerington, I don't know, but take the extra time and drive into Columbus when your sushi craving hits...you...

This 3 star is only and only for the service and servers. FOOD IS GREAT!! EXCELLENT!!! We loved the food no doubt about it. Our first experience with the food was amazing. I agree with people who mentioned here about the servers and their negligence. It was the first time we came here on Tuesday evening. Our server(female) got wrong drink and said sorry about it. That was ok, we did not mind that until…. Another server (a guy )from their team came to us and started interrogating about the open blinds near our seating. He was so rude and offensive. As you can see in one of the picture I have shown the curtains near our seat. This male server said us that, this curtains needs to go down as other guests may have problem with light(which was so dim at 6:47pm) coming in. First, there was only one table occupied in the very end, and they seemed to be not caring about the curtains little bit up, so without anybody complaining this person was trying to threaten us of any such situation which could happen or may be not happen. If you want dark there why to put curtain? Have a tinted window glasses instead. That area seating is above the level, one step up, what if we had fallen down or tripped while climbing up /down the seating? It can happen with anyone. That area should be well lit. Our female server was so slow, our appetizer and soup came after 30mini, she was so late to bring the check that we had to walk and go down to the front end, where again this male server rudely said that we need to go back to our table!!!! Food is very very good, but they really need to train their servers for better hospitality. They all need to be polite high time. I thought the sushi was really great! When Fugu Sushi first opened, it wasn't the best, I have to admit. The selections were lacking and when it did come, it was room temperature and not very appetizing. I struck it off of my list of sushi places, sure that I would not return. Fast forward to 2015 and I think this is one of the best kept little secrets in Pickerington for sushi! My mother and I came on a Wednesday, which is one of the days Fugu offers 50% off of your second special roll (the only other day this deal is happening is on Tuesdays). To start, we ordered two mugs of green tea - seemed to be a Genmaicha tea (roasted rice green tea) - thankfully not sweet but gave a light yet delicious flavor. The menu was much larger than when they first opened, with plenty of tasty selections. We ordered the Ocean Roll, Pink Lady Roll, Fat Lady Roll and Godzilla Roll (because why not? It was buy one, get one half off!) We shared them and each bite was better than the last! Our sushi came perfectly rolled, chilled where it needed to be, and beyond colorful. Eye-catching and delicious? A win! The service was efficient! For those of you who complain about impersonal visits, you must understand the culture - the point is to give you fast, efficient service. Our servers were attentive and didn't have to say much - and that's fine by me! Last night's experience was 5 star to me. We ate half and took the other half home, which I had for my lunch the next day (no raw fish was taken home) - and it was still scrumptious!
