Jose Tequila's Mexican Grill and Bar — Restaurant in Virginia

For this location. My husband and I came here for the first time tonight because this place has been recommended to us several times and let's just say it'll be the last time we ever come here. When we got there we were seated pretty quickly and given chips and salsa, we waited 10 minutes for someone to even come to our table and get our drink order mind you the restaurant wasn't even really busy. Finally the manager walked up to our table because he noticed me looking around for a server as soon as the manager left our table with our drinker order our server finally showed up. After we got our drinks we ordered our food and didn't see our server ever again until we were eating our food and asked if everything was good. Both of our drinks were empty and he never filled them up he was also never around for us to flag him down to get another refill. On top of that we had these group of friends sitting behind us who were obviously all friends with the manager, he was always by their table talking to them in Spanish and they also had two little kids with them who they weren't paying very much attention to because they were all drinking, the two kids were running around the bar screaming and laughing until finally they got up and told their kids to stop running around and sat them at their table. My husband and I have children of our own and we would NEVER let our children act like that even if we were out with a group of friends. After my husband and I were done eating we waited a good 25 minutes before our server even showed up at our table again only because the manager came by and asked if we needed anything and my husband requested the check which the manager followed that up by asking "tequila?" Parking lot had plenty of accessible as well as ordinary spots and was free of debris. Exterior entry was a little cramped. Sign on door stated masks not required if vax'd. Interior entry was very clean. This place smelled delicious!

We were welcomed by a cheerful, masked greeter and shown to what appeared to be the 'first available' booth. I noticed guests were seated in only this area or at the bar. It was 12:30 PM on a Saturday but perhaps a server called out and they only opened part of the dining room(??) I can't say, but it seemed a bit cramped / confined. And yes - knowing I'd write a review, I do look for these things.

Warm, crispy chips, creamy white sauce, and smooth, slightly spicy salsa were delivered to the table. Incredibly flavorful. The menus were the 'Monday - Friday Lunch Specials' menus; very, very nice perk - weekly specials on the weekend! We had about a minute to review them when our drink order was taken - tap brew and a frozen margarita. Oh my goodness! Beer was ice cold and the marg was perfect. Kudos to the barkeep.

Food ordered - Burrito Texano mixed and Fajita Quesadilla, mixed. Arrived exactly 7 minutes after ordering. Meats were hot, fresh, cooked well. Lettuce, tomatoes, cheeses, sour cream were cold and fresh. The kitchen staff must be a well-oiled machine because the preparation and plating was flawless. Probably the best Americanized Mexican-inspired meal I've had.

Table-touches by staff were regular but not overdone. Prices were quite reasonable. Atmosphere was adequate and appealing. Staff was friendly. Bathrooms were clean and stocked. I used to be a regular at Jose Tequila until this horrible experience I had. I was served by Rodrigo (he said he is the manager there) we can start off by the attitude that he had, going to bringing us margaritas with no salt or sugar on the rim (he said they only serve with salt or sugar if requested) I’ve never heard of requesting something like that when ordering a margarita. Then I asked about hot sauce, and I didn’t get any until I asked twice. When we asked for the second margarita we had to ask another server because Rodrigo never came back and it took forever to come. Finally Rodrigo comes back with the check we pay and leave. I had just driven off the parking lot and called because I realized I left my card in the books, so I called and Rodrigo picks up the phone and says nope no ma’am, your card isn’t here and I’m the only manager you can talk to, and if you want call back after 11. (He knew it was me and was playing around) because if the bill got paid, how is the card not there right? Sooooo I decided to get the GM number to call back on Monday, when I did I spoke with another manager because the general manager had a baby and wouldn’t be back for another week or so…. When I say Jose was my go to, and I’m just beyond disappointed on their costumer service. How do you hire a terrible manager to work for you guys?
