While out running Saturday errands, my wife and I stopped into Kickback Jack's for a late lunch. We had never been there before, and while searching for a place to eat, we just couldn't resist the name. Kickback Jacks has very much of a sports bar vibe. There are TV screens all around the dining room. There are also flags and pennants of popular mid-Atlantic colleges like UVA, Virginia Tech, Old Dominion and West Virginia Univ. There are also framed jerseys of local sports greats such as The Great 8, Art Monk, Cal Ripken, and Ray Lewis. They also had a jersey of Pittsburgh Penguins great Mario Lemieux which, myself being a lifelong Washington Capitals fan, made me frown. There is a main bar in the middle of the restaurant with dining on three sides. On one side there is an indoor-outdoor dining area with its own bar. This area is roofed, but has large windows that can slide open.
We were greeted and seated by a friendly hostess. Our server paid her first visit to our table quickly, and was equally as friendly. It being a late lunch, I started with an Ace Pineapple Cider, and my wife had a Mango Margarita. She reported that the Mango Margarita was excellent. We dispensed with an appetizer and went straight to ordering lunch. My wife had BBQ Ribs, with baked beans and Cole Slaw. The ribs were excellent, with a nice portion. They were cooked so the meat would fall off the bone. The BBQ sauce was good but not over-powering, as many rib-serving places tend to be. The baked beans included ground beef which was a surprise, but not an unwelcome one. There were very good. The Cole Slaw was decent.
I had the Shroom and Swiss Burger, which was as you might expect a burger with sauteed mushrooms and Swiss cheese. The burger patty itself was a large one, served nice and juicy. I ordered it Medium, and it came with just a hint of pink which was perfect. The bun eventually couldn't stand up to the juiciness of the burger, but a steak knife is served with the meal to address that contingency. The burger was served with French Fries, which were also very good. When my wife couldn't finish all of her ribs, a take-out box was quickly provided. The restrooms were also very clean. All in all it we were very pleased with Kickback Jacks, and will visit it again when we are in the south of...
Read moreNo consistency in cooking their wings. We loved KBJ's grilled wings but after going there at least 5 times since Jan2023 we have ALWAYS had to send the wings back to be cooked more. When we order we always ask for the grilled wings to be cooked extra, extra, extra well done..even if they look burnt that is how we order them. The attached pictures are from our most recent visit on Sat 25Nov23..these pics are AFTER we sent them back & they supposedly grilled them more...REALLY? The one wing that is pictured by itself was pink inside. On this Nov visit we asked our waitress to take them back for a 3rd cooking. She said she could get the mgr to come over which said ok...He explained that no way could they tie up their grill on a busy night w/wings as that could take 20-30min. Really?? But we ordered GRILLED wings...he explained they bake the wings early in the day then grilled wings are ordered they put them in the pizza oven? On this Sat the restaurant was not over busy and there were many open bar seats & tables. We've always gotten wings with grill marks on them. CRAZY. (Note: Mgr deleted wing order from our bill). Even though we explain we WILL send the wings back if not extra well done we always have to send them back. Other issues @ this KBJ: asking for a specific NCAA football game caused the female manager aggressively yell at my husband about how she was too busy; took 2 friends for grilled wings but fried wings were delivered - waiter stated he put it in correctly so it was a kitchen mistake but once we saw bill it said "Fry Wings" - these were replaced w/grilled wings but that caused us an extensive wait for food; ordered grilled wings w/sauce (which is what we always do/get) and got dry wings - waitress gave same spiel "well I put the order in correctly, these are what you ordered" and then she came up with the story that because we wanted them extra well done the sauce dried up when they kept them on grill longer...we've NEVER gotten dry wings. We did order a 2nd order of wings and they were exactly as requested & not dry??. To recap: staff at this KBJ needs to respect customer & cook wings as requested, staff needs to stop making illogical excuses when food isn't cooked...
Read moreI LOVE Kickback's especially for their drinks, salads and wings! When we moved her and found out there was one within 5 mins our our new place we'd order from them often. My family and I have been eating and ordering food from this exact location for about 2 years now....and for the first time, this past Valentine's Day, we had a HORRIBLE experience....
Our server, Janelle, was AMAZING and trying her best that night to make everything better but the food was soo DISGUSTING! My husband said the food tasted like "whoever was cooking must have had their heart broken right before their shift started"...and I AGREE
Our appetizers (bang shrimp, fries and a salad) were barely cooked and sauced, our entrees (wings) smelled like the grease hadn't been changed, and my wings (boneless) were under-cooked and looked like chicken nuggets with a drizzle of sauce. Our stomachs were hurting so bad just from tasting the food, we didn't want to eat anymore! We notified our server and her manager came over. He looked confused but we explained to him the quality of the food and he apologized and was going to remove it from our bill and replace my husband's food. Well we get the bill and it was incorrect but lucky our server and I caught and she fixed it for us! I was also disappointed in the fact that they don't have the servers or hosts notify you that if you eat inside they only accept 2 forms of payment. They only let you know about it once they give you the bill, weird! and I feel like that was only because when I offered my credit card she told me they don't accept anything but bank (debit) card and cash...hmmm, ok we spent $50 on what!? lol we still had to pay for half of the food that they didn't properly cook...
I cannot make up how bad of a night it was for us and the place wasn't packed that night either! My daughter cried because the fries were that nasty....There were couples and families that came in after us and left before us leaving their full meals on the table so I know it was bad..
Pros: Our Server Janelle
Cons: EVERYTHING THAT NIGHT
Hopefully the next time we visit or order from here it will be a...
