I hate to write negative reviews but I do want to be very honest about our experience at Kunnari's Kitchen.
So, from the beginning; the wait time was lengthy and took longer for the food to arrive compared to the time it took to eat it ... Like 45 minutes waiting and less than 10 minutes to eat it. The amount of food for the cost was small and my husband and I both admitted we were hungry after eating our gyros. It tasted pretty good yet there wasn't much meat and barely any tzatziki sauce. It was dry and seemed rushed since all the onions were squished in one spot towards the end of the gyro. The bread wrap was delicious.
My worst complaint is the service. I dislike rating service as negative as I remember when I served as a teenager. It's not easy and I get it. But these girls just seem so depressed and despondent. No smile, nothing. I asked how she was when we stepped up to order and she looked right through me without answering. To be honest it was odd and unnerving. it was like she was told not to smile, not to say anything other than 'are chips okay?' as a side and avoid all eye contact. We thought perhaps she was having a bad day. And we also wondered what the alternative was to potato chips since she made it seem like it was a bag of chips or nothing. Was fries an option instead? We didn't ask as she already seemed very irritated at the thought of serving us peasants.
When we finished our meal we went back to get a cupcake to bring back home. We waited probably a good 15 minutes to order because the person in front ordering was confused about the menu. Surely this cashier was more affable and kinder than the 1st, right? Nope. She just stood there as the confused lady asked questions but instead of answering just stared blankly ahead. 1000 yard stare into a void. Finally the lady wrapped up her 15 minute order of 2 items (no joke) and a long line had formed. This was in the midst of lunch time by the way. We stepped up to order and I kid you not, the cashier just looked beyond miserable and annoyed. She had no personality and like the first, just couldn't smile no matter what. It was as if this was a punishment to work here. My 4 year old boy (an absolute cutie... Very friendly and sweet. Can charm scales off of a snake!) had said thank you and waved bye to both cashiers only to get no response at all. I'm not saying he should get a huge response at all, but a smile or a simple thanks to be polite? The people behind must have felt bad the 2nd time around as they chatted kindly to him and commented about his politeness. I feel bad for these girls as they just seem absolutely miserable. Like they are forced to work but hate every second of it. It is a strange vibe and my husband and I agreed we wouldn't go back. It was sad as we very rarely go out and were excited to eat here.
Roundup! Food: quantity small, tasted good but lacking in the major ingredients. Pricey for quantity. Atmosphere: well, the cashiers did not help but otherwise it was so-so. I do appreciate the available water provided. Otherwise space limited and not horrible but not comfortable and welcoming. Service: the worst, most uncomfortable service we've experienced.
I do see many positive reviews which is why we visited this restaurant. Unfortunately we did not experience the same as others giving this 5 stars. For over $40 for 2 lunches, a kids meal and a cupcake? I'd be willing to spend more and go elsewhere just for a friendly smile and happier atmosphere. It really was quite depressing and unnerving if I'm...
Read moreI wanted to share this review to be constructive to this restaurant, because I do like the food there and I eat there often. We were there for breakfast and both my wife and myself ordered oatmeal, coffee and tea. This morning was just a lot of work to get it right. First no tea with the hot water so had to go ask for a tea bag. When we got our order of oatmeal it didn’t come with the little tin of cream or milk, but maybe that has changed. No fruit either, yet it was advertised on the menu. I asked the waitress where the fruit was. She responded that “you have to ask for that if you want it”. We were like ok... can we have fruit then. Wasn’t sure why we needed to ask for something that is stated in the written menu on the board as “served with”. Beings there was no milk I figured I’d just go buy some. In that return visit to the counter I asked if she was getting the fruit. She said, oh you want fruit with it? I said yes... again. As she was making my change she stopped to go ask a co-worker something ( I am guessing wondering to charge extra ). I politely showed her the menu where it says it’s part of the event. It took a while but it finally came. No refills on coffee, so a fourth and final trip to the counter to get a second cup. After some of the ownership came in, people moved a lot faster, atmosphere seemed to change and coffee starting coming around for the first time when we were about to leave. It was just a lot work to have breakfast and would have been better at home.
This is a good place but better consistency would...
Read moreWe used Kunnari's as our wedding caterer, for an outdoor wedding (with eating in lodges) at Camp Warren in Eveleth.
It was amazing. They are amazing. Kelly was our main contact, but the sister-duo that runs Kunnari's does an amazing job, and lets zero details slip.
They met with us early on to discuss food options, and we decided to go a non-traditional route: their delicious family-secret pot pie. They adjusted the recipe to allow for vegetarians to get a taste, while the rest of our guests enjoyed chicken pot pie.
The results? We've had at least 10-15 guests rave about how delicious the pot pie was and how much they loved our meal. We had another 10 or so people tell us that the salad bar put together by Kunnari's was the best salad bar they've ever had. Multiple people went to the buffet table for seconds and thirds (on both pot pie AND salad).
I haven't even mentioned the appetizers yet, which were amazing as well. Farm-fresh kabobs, salsa (fruit & traditional), and bruschetta. Yum!
We wish we could get married and have these folks cater for us a million times over. If you're reading this and considering using their catering services for anything at all, please give them a shot.
Side note: We're now big fans of their restaurant as well, and recommend that to anybody searching for gourmet food on...
