My friends and I have been spending our money at Manhattan's quite often recently, and I've always been impressed with the service and drinks. However, I had an experience this past Friday that completely changed my mind. I was waiting in line to have my Virginia ID checked by the bouncer (I didn't get his name). He took my friends’ IDs, gave them the OK, and let them through. I handed him mine, and as he was about to hand it back to me, he took it back and stared at it for a while. He asked me if I had a credit card on me - no problem, I understand this is his job and sometimes other forms of identification may be necessary. He then asked me if I had a student ID, to which I replied no. (I've recently graduated college so I do not carry it anymore, and student IDs do not display birth dates anyway; I also explained this to him.) After staring at my credit card for 30 seconds, he then rudely demanded that I take my cell phone out and show him my Facebook profile. He asked for a recent picture of me for proof of identity (which I found quite inappropriate, but I showed him one), and when that didn't satisfy him, he asked me to show him my birthday on Facebook, to which I responded I do not have that private information displayed on my Facebook account. However, I was able to access my birth date under my Twitter account information, and he said Twitter "does not cut it" and "is not the same as Facebook." I did not, at all, understand that, and he wouldn’t explain when I asked. I offered to show my insurance cards and my renter's insurance (which should be acceptable proof because apartments cannot be rented under the age of 21), but I was again turned away. As my friends were on their way to the bar, I was stuck trying to explain to him, while holding up the line behind me, that I am 22 years old and was let in by the other bouncer 2 nights prior, and last week. He remained adamant that I was lying and had a fake Virginia ID, and rudely dismissed me. I was embarrassed and disrespected by his demand for excessive proof and that anything I showed him was invalid. I work in the ABC industry and understand that it is entirely illegal to turn a customer away with a real state ID, and there are many other ways to verify a Virginia ID without excessively demanding other personal property. I was told that the manager and the other bouncer had no say in the matter and that I was not able to speak to them. After being mistreated and unrightfully turned away, my friends and I decided to go to another bar instead, where I was served alcohol with my ID and with absolutely no trouble. My friends and I will not be spending our money at...
Read moreI hate to write this review beacuse I know all to well that people have bad days and Manhattans has good food and in a great location, but I have to add that this is literally like the 5th time I have had a negatve experience with the bartender who is supposedly also the Manager. She is the manager and her inability to take accountabily for her poor customer service is going to soon catch up with her. She NEVER identifies or corrects her behavior and EVERYONE in the city knows she is RUDE so I now blame it on the owners and upper mangement because she has been at the bar for years and I avoid her intentionaly unlless she is the only person working. I visited a friends house tonight and I asked her and a few people around her " Hey doesnt Manhattans have a rude bartender ? She said yes the Caucasian girl , I cant remeber her name". She then staed " Shes been rude forever. " I believe she HAS to be related to the owners for how ignorant she is allowed to act. I lived across the street for 6 years and I have seen so many people have bad interactions with her and she has NEVER corected her attitude ot behavior. Manhattans gets enough business that I assume they dont care about how her image impacts their business but i must say that it is truly a reflection of ownership and their lack of atention and care to customer service is unfortunate because Ive never met a bad server but the bartender is HORRIBLE!!!! Manhattans please care about your business !!!I There are so many deserving employess who could fufill a management positon so much better. I watch this same manger demean and undermine her staff to be rude for no...
Read moreI wanna first start of by saying I’ve been to Manhattans multiple times and had a decent time. Lastnight it was a manager on duty ( I asked for her name to report her she told me “No I’m not giving you my name”) but she has blonde hair , skinny, caucasian middle age lady with glasses she was VERY RUDE and UNPROFESSIONAL! I’ve never in my life been talked to by a manger like I wasn’t a paying guest. Our server Autumn when we first got there seemed like she needed help and was frustrated with all the guest she had to attend to by herself. She took 15, 20 mins to bring the menus and when she did she was in a rush about getting our order. She threw away my to go food that i left on the table with my keys and bag when stepping outside to smoke. Then she wouldn’t reimburse my money or re make my food. The food I ordered to go and she brought it on a plate I had to ask for a box which took her 30 mins to bring...after I came back inside and noticed my food was gone Asked her for the manager she said that she was bartending so she couldn’t attend to me. When i asked for the manger the 4th time the waitress got frustrated as if it wasn’t my right as an unhappy customer to do so. The manger came over the one i described above, she was very nasty and as we left she stood outside yelling and being unprofessional as we left. Making a scene as if we wasn’t the customers. I will never spend a penny in this place again and any friend that wants to go out and says this place I will convince them to spend their money another place cause clearly they...
