Amazing spot and I absolutely love the decorations and atmosphere. Reading that this is a chain and this location being so amazing tells me they are doing something right. I don’t think I’ve ever been to a restaurant that manages to pull this service member tribute and honor off as well as this place does.
I got the 2 meet sampler with moist brisket and turkey with 2 sides of baked beans and macaroni. This also came with cornbread. I also bought a banana pudding. First off, I never eat corn bread. I usually dislike all that I’ve tried. After trying everything else including the 6 different BBQ sauces, I figured it would be worth a shot and boy it was. I ate all of the corn bread. Moist, fluffy, and semi-cake like it was great without butter. The banana pudding was really good. For what it is, they do a great job with the flavors and textures. I highly recommend both the corn bread and banana pudding.
The meats: they do not have beef ribs. Their moist brisket is really good and anyone can find a sauce that works for them here. The turkey has great flavor but was dry.
The sides: the macaroni and cheese was really good with the flavors and textures, but like the turkey was dry. The baked beans were excellent. Hard to say anything bad about these.
I apologize in advance, but the lady from South America called Sherinda (sorry I butchered this!) is absolutely lovely, friendly, and kind. It’s very difficult to find a worker like her that has no stake in the game per say but goes the extra mile to talk to the customers, ask their thoughts, but also wants to ensure everyone is happy with their meals and experience. Having a family restaurant for over 10 years I think I have a good idea when I say this, but she is a keeper for sure.
Lovely BBQ spot with service member memorabilia makes for one great restaurant dining experience. The only reason I gave a 4 out of 5 star is for...
Read moreI forgot to leave a review. I heard this place was expensive and really wasn't worth it. Or family worked in Charlottesville for about 2 years or more ,commuting a hour to and from work. Now we still commuting because our son plays soccer locally there. We were hungry after a late night game and we wanted to eat something and not the same old thing. It was my turn to pick and Im not the greatest at picking out places to eat and I said okay you are going have to go where I pick so be it. We pull up and I felt deep down I'm gonna hate my self for picking this place. We open the door the staff looked up like they were surprised to see someone work it and said welcome to Mission Bbq. I was like we caught them off guard 😂. I asked what time do you close? They said 20 minutes or so, some people continued to clean the people at the counter gave us their full attention and they asked us if our meal would be for here or to go. I said well you are closing soon. They said that doesn't matter stay as long as you like. That was a relief because we were tired and wanted to relax a little before a hour ride home. They took the time to explain the menu. Asked if it was our first time. We felt like the store was meant for us to open for us at that night at the time just for us. We found out what kind of sauce each one of liked. The corn bread was not fresh. Trayvon and Shenaid I hope that is spelled correctly. But they brought some out to us that was fresh. Then I explained to them this was the first time we had even and why we never came there beforehand. Now we would definitely be coming there more often and even looking for them when we stopped in. We were just there last Sunday. Thank you and now I know I like...
Read moreGreat sevice and probably the best bbq you'll eat in Charlottsville.
Honest, best review possible from a southern bbq champion and veteran whom has travelled quite a few places: I tried the ribs, cold slaw, brisket, cornbread, and the baked beans
RIBS: had good flavor and fell right off the bone, however; the bark was very soft and light. The bark should be just a little crisper and darker - the tenderness and flavor were good; just knowing how to tweak it a little to where you still have that juicy tender fall-off-the-bone with a crispier bark is key to true bbq, not to mention, the flavor I got was only from the seasoning, not from the flame, the type of charcoal or wood chips used, or any smoke flavor - need to work on that. Rating: 3/5
BRISKET: was very juicy and tender - needed more flavor - overall, cooked to perfection though minus the flavor. Rating: 4.5/5
CORNBREAD: tasted like it was made from a box, not from scratch - even making it from a box, you can still add your own touch; it was moist though. Rating: 2.5/5
COLD SLAW: needs to rest after original soak; after about a 20 minute post-soak rest period, add the creamiest to it. Also, change the seasoning, because it kills the after taste. The flavor while eating is good, but the after taste needs help. Rating: 2.5/5
Baked Beans: horrific - need to change everything about it. Rating: 1/5 - if I could give a 0, I would.
I think the brisket is your strong point.
Overall, not a bad choice for bbq in Virginia, but could be better in my opinion. Thank you...
