Will no longer be dining at any Black Bear Diners anymore. Me (an Army Veteran in uniform) and my friend (a Navy Veteran) and his wife were advised by our waitress we were able to get a military discount from the manager upon my asking during lunch, waitress was very pleasant so I had no issues with her. However, she departed herself for the remainder of the day before I had gone up to the register to pay. Upon arriving at the register, the male cashier had an attitude after I mentioned our military discount and I then asked to speak to manager. Manager arrived and we were able to get our military discount but the cashier was not advised of this (so they say). If he wasn't advised, that's bad communication for an establishment, once again, no one tells anybody anything, nothing new there! Had a difficult time throughout the duration of the transaction because I would be the only person that would get the discount. I literally got verbal and yelled over to my friend who had to present his V.A. Card to the manager. Manager then tells me he won't be giving a discount for my friend's wife at all since she's not military. I had that sneaky suspicious feeling no communication was gonna be given to each other at the restaurant regarding my Military Discount once I stepped up at the register...it didn't surprise me! No Military Veteran should have to go through this BS to get a discount. I understand there was covid and no military discounts for a while, but if I had known I was gonna be harassed by the cashier and the manager, I would've never asked the waitress about the military discount. Unprofessional in my opinion. No one is perfect, but that's ridiculous! Guess it's my fault for being a white Military Veteran! Getting sick of this BS the Veterans get from businesses! If you're a white Military Veteran, do not dine here! Had the same issue at the Black Bear Diner in Tulare and Hanford, exact same issue! Fair warning Vets! Now you know!
Denny's accepts all Veteran Discounts "and" AARP with no hassle, even during covid they never stopped accepting Veteran Discounts according to my Veteran friend (he told me too and I should've listened to him!). Will be dining there from now on. That includes my Military friend and his wife who both agree I was...
Read moreToday was supposed to be a peaceful lunch outing with my elderly father, who we were treating after a hospital visit, and my son. Unfortunately, it turned into one of the worst dining experiences we’ve ever had. My father and son both ordered the fish and chips, and what came out was completely burned—black and dry. Even the waitress acknowledged it looked “extra crispy” when she brought it out. My father, being polite and not wanting to cause a scene, attempted to eat it but couldn’t enjoy it at all. I politely asked for another plate for him since he couldn’t eat the first one, and the replacement was thankfully better, but the damage had already been done.As someone who hasn’t eaten meat in over a decade due to health and lifestyle reasons, I ordered a veggie patty lettuce wrap with sweet potato fries. What I was served looked fine—until I took a bite and realized it was a beef patty. I immediately spit it out. This was not just a dietary preference issue; it was a serious violation of my lifestyle and health. I remained calm for the sake of my father but was deeply upset. The manager did come out to apologize and brought the veggie patty I originally ordered. However, by the time that came, the new sweet potato fries were undercooked—just hot, oily, and soggy. I took one bite of the veggie burger and left it. My father was disappointed. My son was disappointed. I was beyond upset. This was a truly awful experience from start to finish, with careless food handling and unacceptable mistakes. I will never return, and I strongly advise vegans and anyone with dietary restrictions to think twice before...
Read moreWe popped in about 15 min before closing, but were greeted with a smile. When I asked if I was too late for ordering a meal I was told I would be fine, as long as I chose quickly. My husband and a friend were still parking the car when I was seated. My husband and friend ordered breakfast; I ordered the chili bowl & *corn muffin. I asked for xtra cheese and a little hot water, as the chili was very thick. Both were brought promptly. *I also ordered an extra corn muffin, as they are quite small..but very tasty. I also asked for honey. ( I was quite surprised by her bringing a squeeze bear 🐻 rather than those tiny pkts : ) I was also quite happy that upon our ordering seltzer water with lemon there was no xtra charge : ) My husband ordered the Calif Omelette and my friend the CFS Breakfast. (chicken fried steak & eggs) Both looked great on the plate, and both my husband & friend said they enjoyed the meal. No negatives on the food at all. The waitress let us know it was 30 min past closing, but was very tactful. (We had already paid the check) We thanked her for a lovely meal & service and left promptly. I also asked for a take out cup with lid for my sparkling water, which was promptly given. We will definitely return. This was my 2nd meal in two weeks at this Black Bear. Before these two meals I hadn't been to any Blackbear in about 10 years? I will now, happily, be a...
