First time in a Marie Callenders. I was not at all impressed. I was immediately taken to my seat by the hostess. The waitress approached and asked for my drink order with a warm slice of cornbread. She gave me no eating utensils. So I waited while she went from table to table talking to the customers. Finally I reached for a set from another table. I ordered the quiche with salad and soup. I received the quiche, runny eggs. Did I say runny - how about still cackling? I waited for a return visit. Nothing. I waved her down and asked for my quiche to be cooked a little more. Why did she tell me it was the cheese? I am a quiche connoisseur... No I told her, I want it cooked. She said, "oh you want it well done." Yes, please. So she removed the plate, brought me a different quiche (looked the same to me) and told me they remade my quiche... Hello, it is still cackling. The salad was four large chunks of fruit. Not sure what that was about. Fruit is not in season. I asked for a to - go box and told her I would finish cooking it at home. She told me the chef would come out and explain the process for cooking the quiche. I declined to hear his explanation. So I asked for my soup. She told me I ordered the breakfast menu and it does not have soup 😒... Hmmmm. Breakfast is over at 11am and it is now noon. In fact I heard her tell someone that breakfast is no longer being served... Now I get the soup, and the chunks of onion would choke a horse. There were chunks of cucumbers and unless this is a trend, who puts cucumbers in their vegetable soup? So while I am eating my soup, she comes and removes the plate of chunked fruit, cantelope, orange, pineapple, and honey dew. Did she asked whether I was finished...??? No... I had to stop her to let her know I was not finished... She was three tables away by this time... Just rude service and no respect...too bad I cannot post pics. Dr. Robin...
Read moreMy mom and I drove from out of town to buy some pies here, her being elderly really needed to use the restroom, but the restrooms are for customers only, how is that if paying customers go there to purchase food??? And I was standing there, and two gals where there , not even asking me may I help you, I noticed that they were polite with other customers, but not with me or my mom!! This establishment really needs way better customer service; for one, if people are going to buy food to go, there should be restrooms for the customers, not just for the employees...we had masks too, so that should not be a problem....and way better customer service, we both felt unwelcome, the two gals who were working there , one of the gals told my mom to shut the door the the entrance of the restrooms, since she went to go use it anyway, her having a week bladder....they have both mens and womans restroom. In good working condition!! Should be able to provide restrooms for paying customers; and be friendly to all customers, not just to some; very unprofessional....yes the pies were good, but not sure if we are going back, us driving from out of town to buy pies.....in this time of crisis, people should be way more friendlier and make customers feel welcome....I was standing there for a few minutes, and the two gals did not ask me if I needed...
Read moreWe stopped into the Visalia Marie Callender's after a long absence. We were seated at 7:30 for dinner. My wife and I were the only customers. (That should have been a warning.) One other customer drifted in while we were there. She seemed to be their sole regular as she visited with the other waitress for 20-30 minutes before ordering. (This had no impact on us. I just mention it to show how "dead" this location is.)
I had the sourdough meatloaf sandwich and my wife had the chicken pot pie. We both had the potato cream soup. Everything was bland. All the food required generous applications of salt, pepper, and Tabasco sauce to maintain our interest. This was very unusual for my wife. The food reminded me of convalescent hospital fair. The pies we both order were good.
Bland institutional food. I wonder how they stay open? My guess is that being the closest restaurant to the Tulare County court house gives them an innocent lunch crowd.
Black Bear Dinner a few blocks down Mooney also has pie and much better food. We will...
