Get the sesame balls! More on that later . I started with a Vietnamese coffee in sweetened condensed milk (hot) which was delicious ($5). Then I got a half order (3) of pork and shrimp crispy rolls , served with lettuce , pickled cabbage, and house special fish sauce ( not traditional, it was red – – but tasted very good ) , $5 . Since it was my first time here, I chose the house special Pho , #1 on the list ( I think it's actually P12 in their numbering ) , with the usual rare steak, well done steak , tripe, tendons and meatball – – a large bowl for $9 . All the ingredients in the soup were extremely fresh and delicious, and the broth was extraordinary ; served with the traditional mint leaves, bean sprouts and hot peppers on the side . Almost as an afterthought, I ordered 6 sesame balls for $5 ( 4 for $4 ) – – which seems a bit pricey, given that my favorite little Vietnamese sandwich shop in Mira Mesa ( Bale French Sandwiches: great ingredients on fresh baked French rolls--generous sandwiches for $5 ) sells sesame balls for $0.25 a piece (4 for $1 !)… But as I sat here in my car in the parking lot pondering this review , I decided to try one . I was very pleasantly surprised to find that they were still warm – – having been made to order . They are never as good as when they are fresh out of the fryer , and OMG – – these were delicious! So even though my total bill was $24.50 , with a $4.50 tip = $29 for lunch , I took home half of my Pho, so I will get another lunch out of it (not sure if the last 3 sesame balls will even make it home :-) . The place was very clean , and although most of the help avoided eye contact , the manager was very pleasant , made a point to greet everyone , was very gracious , and said thanks and bye to everyone when they were done . When I come back I'm going to try their Spicy Pho Thai Soup! I suspect everything is good… But definitely get the...
Read moreStopped in here since i was staying at hotel nearby for work. Small diner style restaurant and pretty busy around 8-9pm. Ordered pho and some spring rolls with very prompt service. Didn't have to wait very long for food being made fresh which was nice. Waitresses are super friendly and nice to absolutely everyone in the restaurant, willing to explain everything on the menu out if you have questions. They also seem to know a bunch of people that are dining in which is awesome when you get recognized and asked how your day is or how your family is doing.
The food, the food is amazing here, the spring rolls were fresh and the peanut sauce was perfect. The pho was the best pho i've ever had, the broth had a great depth of flavor and the portion was more than enough. There is a variety of meats available for their pho so i think there's something for everyone with the different types they offer. I ended up coming back a couple days later and the broth was just as amazing as consistent to the one i had previously. If you've never had pho before and like soup, just come in and try one and i'm sure you'll be impressed. That being said they have a large menu of vietnamese food, a little thai and a full chinese menu. I also decided to get vietnamese iced coffee and it's brewed traditionally and tastes great. Everything i saw come out of the kitchen looked awesome and i wish i lived down here just so i could go eat here on a weekly basis.
This restaurant puts love into their food and it...
Read moreHoly guacamole this place is awesome. Allow me to preface: I live in San Francisco and eat Vietnamese influenced food on the regular. Not only ( perhaps logically) is the food very affordable (huge serving sizes about 11 dollars for most plates ) but the quality of the food blew my socks off. I can’t wait to come to Escondido again so I can eat at this amazing place and I will be raving about how good it is for years. The interior is cozy, the menu: expansive, the service: excellent, and the food; mind blowing.
I ordered for ten or eleven bucks a huge soup of vermicelli noodles with a light coconut broth and what I think was a hot sesame oil. There was cilantro, onion and green onion as well as bean sprouts lime and jalapeño on the side. That broth dear god. It was sooooooo good. ( AND they let you order just the broth for only four bucks. If I lived here I am telling you that broth would be in my weekly cooking rotation no doubt. I can’t make something this amazing. ) I ate here tonight with three people who have never had Vietnamese. The wait staff was prompt with all of our needs including mid meal additions, and was capable of understanding my terrible attempts to pronounce the food correctly as well as answering my compatriots numerous questions. This during a busy period, the place was packed! The staff on mar 10 around five thirty pm are awesome
