It’s the little things that add up to mediocrity.
My wife and I eat a lot of sushi so we’re pretty picky. And while the sushi wasn’t bad, it also wasn’t all that great. I normally order the chirashi bowl to see how well they prepare the fish, but after being seated and looking around at the surroundings and menu choices, I changed my mind because I just didn’t trust it would be good. I guess I’ll never know.
The food in general was okay and the fish tasted fairly fresh. The rice seemed a bit overcooked and was a little mushy. The little things. What I really don’t appreciate is trying to pass off albacore tuna as yellowtail and charging us for the higher priced fish. I’ve had enough to know the difference. That’s a big thing.
Service was abysmal. Our server didn’t know the menu. We weren’t even aware that they served beer because it wasn’t on the menu and our server didn’t know what kind they had. We ended up having to ask the owner for drinks. We ordered one spicy maki sushi combo which comes with miso soup and salad, and I ordered a separate miso soup, unagi nigiri, and a yellowtail roll. The soup and salad are normally served first, but since our server didn’t know the menu and didn’t write down our order and read it back to us, we didn’t get the soup or salad until after we received the sushi and we had to flag her down and ask for it. When we did, she acted like she didn’t know what we were talking about. She didn’t know what came with the combo. It’s the little things.
The miso soup was pretty good, but the salad was nothing more than a few old pieces of lettuce and small side of mayonnaise. The unagi was good except for the rice. The little things.
The atmosphere was early 80s disco meets converted pizza restaurant with random Asian decorations haphazardly crowded onto walls and shelves. There was a constant swooshing sound somewhere in back that combined with thumping bass-heavy pop music that was far from soothing. The menus were old and tattered, and like I said before, didn’t have drinks listed. The little things.
Prices were reasonable for some things, given the quality. Other things were a bit overpriced for the quantity. All in all, we probably won’t eat here again until they train their staff a little more. Unfortunately there aren’t too many choices in this small town. These little...
Read moreThe food here, especially the sushi, is incredibly delicious! We ordered enough just to try their food out and got to the end of it wanting more! There is something for everybody, and the veggie sushi menu has a section dedicated to it, which I was thrilled about. Most items on the menu have a description of what is in the dish if you're unsure. We ordered online for pick up and the process went smoothly; they double checked to make sure they got the right order to us. Everything was fresh when we picked it up and our order was packaged thoughtfully and with an incredible amount of care - warm food separated from cold and packed so that it wouldn't budge when being moved.
The only issue I had during pick up was that I was charged an extra 20% tip on my pre-tipped order. Their payment system categorizes pre-tipping as part of your order total when you pick up and pay in store, and automatically applies a 20% tip. It's not something I'd personally fuss about, but I'm lucky that it went through. I used a card with a set amount of money on it and just skirted by. If this might be an issue for you when you order online and want to pre-tip, pay online or pay...
Read moreAsian fusion restaurant is probably the best go to asian Food restaurant in Walla walla if you’re looking for a good all around, good tasting, and decent variety Asian food. I believe the owners are Cantonese or Hokkien, so you may notice a trend of that style of food and taste in their dishes particularly with the Chinese and Japanese style noodle dishes. Their sushi is also pretty decent, although I do wish the roles were a bit bigger, but they are pretty tasty in general. I found this restaurant to be better than its competitors in the area, and I find myself going back to eat or getting takeout from here more often than not. When I’ve gotten takeout from other restaurants with similar menus, I’ve almost always been disappointed in what I’ve received.
It’s hard to gauge service as a whole because of Covid, but in general the wait staff and owners are fairly attentive to customers coming in and taking orders. I think it’s been a little bit of a struggle as we are coming out of quarantine and getting into regular business, so it’s not just this restaurant that is struggling with the service aspect. I’ve certainly had...
