Ting Ho — Restaurant in Wallingford

Excellent food but terrible business practices!

Stopped in to Ting Ho to pick up and order I placed over the phone. The order should have come to $47.50. When I picked it up I was told it was $55 and when I offered my credit card to pay they added a $10 surcharge for that. I asked about that and I was told that was the fee to absorb the fee they would pay the company handling the transaction. The actual fee would be $1.15. According to the CT.GOV portal they say: Connecticut law prohibits a business from charging a customer a surcharge for choosing one payment type (usually credit card) over another payment type (usually cash). However, the law does allow a business to offer a discount if a customer chooses to use one type of payment (e.g., cash) over another type of payment (e.g., credit card). Receiving the discount is not the same as adding a surcharge. As long as the final receipt shows a discount, it complies with Connecticut law.

The Chicken and Broccoli lunch special and I love how clean tasting the egg roll was. It wasn't overly greasy like you sometimes find with deep fried food. I think that they have changed cooks since the last time I was there about 5 years ago and it has definitely improved. Glad I gave it another shot!

There was another review that is saying they are thieves and to stay away from them. I don't usually get involved, but it's a pretty strong accusation. The state of CT raised our taxes again in 2019. Taken directly from CT's website..

Quite possibly the worst Chinese food I’ve ever had and I’m not that picky. I should have known this was gonna be a “skip” when the girl who answered the phone told me to hold and then started chatting to someone for a couple minutes with me sitting there on the open line.

Crab Rangoon had no crabmeat whatsoever inside and the cream cheese looked like it had separated and honestly tasted spoiled. I opened up 3 of the 6 and they were all the same. Pork lo mein was actually burnt and smelled like charred plastic. I swear whoever was cooking it forgot it was in the wok and didn’t care. I went to pour it into a serving bowl and after catching one whiff of it and seeing the texture it went right into the trash.
