Extremely Disappointed
I stopped by Boba Ave 8090 on Saturday early evening for some quick food -- I ordered a large cup of fries and their popcorn chicken. Unfortunately, my experience was extremely disappointing from start to finish.
After placing my order, I waited over 30 minutes, only to realize they had skipped over my order number. When I asked the guy at the front counter, he explained (without any apology) that they prioritize making all the drinks first before food during a rush. He seemed clearly overwhelmed and bothered, which made the experience even worse. A simple acknowledgment or apology would have gone a long way, but there was none.
When I finally received my food, the fries tasted good -- they were hot and crispy. However, the popcorn chicken was absolutely disgusting. I tried to eat a few pieces, but it just left a nasty, greasy taste in my mouth. It seemed like the chicken was either not cooked at a high enough temperature or fried in old, insufficient oil. It was so bad I couldn't even eat it.
I spoke to a young lady at the counter, who called the guy over again. I explained that the chicken didn't taste right and I asked for a refund of just $7.00 (for the chicken). He refused, even though I had literally only eaten two pieces and the rest was untouched. Ultimately, I had to throw the entire thing away because I didn't want to risk getting sick.
Bottom line: I will never come back here again. When you serve food, consistency and quality matter -- you can't cut corners, especially during busy times, and expect customers to just accept it. Poor service, no accountability, and terrible food are a recipe for losing customers, which they just did.
Edit 4/29: Thank you for getting back to me and for explaining the situation. I would like to take you up on the offer for a refund. Please let me know the best way to proceed. I appreciate your willingness to address the issue and speak with your team.
Edit 5/2: I came back to your restaurant on the afternoon of May 2nd, as you suggested, to request the refund you mentioned in your earlier response. When I arrived, the young lady at the front desk called you, and I was told you would only offer a new order of chicken instead.
I made the trip in good faith, expecting you would have at least communicated with your staff or left a note so they’d know a customer would be coming in for a refund this week. Especially during these difficult economic times, spending money to eat out is a choice—not a small one—and it’s extremely frustrating when the food isn’t properly prepared.
If you truly intend to refund me, please provide a specific date when I can come in and receive it without any issues. If you don’t plan to honor your word, then please don’t waste my time and effort. All I’m asking is for clear communication and...
Read moreWhen the other Boba Avenue location closed in San Gabriel area I was very sad. It was like my favorite spot to come when I'm in the area because they're strawberry yogurt and fried tofu were very good. I heard from the owners that the plazas that the other locations were at decided to do other things with the space. It wasn't that they were having bad business or losing money. At least this new location has plenty of parking and there are other Asian businesses in the plaza like tasty BCD tofu house and others. The outside seating area for the business has some sort of imitation scenery kind of like the ones you see in Disneyland to imitate a area. Like a business is not really a business it's a wall lol. Other than that there strawberry yogurt is just as good as I remember and they do serve the fried tofu. I usually call ahead on the phone if I just want to pick up and go quickly. They do stop serving fried food close to the 11:00 p.m. Mark so try to come...
Read moreI guess the place itself is not bad, but the ppl or whoever behind the drink are not very smart. I ordered a "new" item, kumquat lemon green tea, I haven't never had a kumquat lemon tea that have all shredded piece in the drink that u would have mouth full of fruit skin and stuffs every time you suck on that straw. Unless someone tell me eating those shredded piece is a normal way to enjoy these tea or else it is the person making this drink never think from the customer point of view....
