5 Stars - A True Gem in Town: Honu Hawaiian BBQ

After several attempts (note: they're closed on Tuesdays, so plan accordingly!), I finally had the pleasure of dining at Honu Hawaiian BBQ, and let me tell you, it was worth the wait. This place is a revelation for anyone craving authentic Hawaiian cuisine in our town, a welcome change from the options we've had until now.

The moment my wife and I stepped in, we knew we were in for a treat. We decided to go for the Chicken Katsu dish and the Garlic Butter Shrimp + Hawaiian punch/Pine Apple coconut slush. Both dishes were nothing short of spectacular. The Chicken Katsu was perfectly cooked, boasting a crispy exterior while remaining incredibly juicy and tender inside. As for the Garlic Butter Shrimp, it was a flavor bomb, rich and aromatic, making additional dipping sauces (though provided and delightful in their own right—one spicy and one mild) almost unnecessary.

It's refreshing to see a legitimate Hawaiian food option finally making its mark, especially after my less-than-stellar experiences with previous establishments in the area. Honu Hawaiian BBQ not only fills that void but does so with gusto and a flair that's hard to find.

The young lady leading this venture, a native of Diamond Bar/Rowland Heights, is a testament to the vibrant spirit of young entrepreneurs dedicated to enriching our community with their passions. Her leadership and vision for Honu Hawaiian BBQ add an extra layer of community pride and support for local businesses.

I'm already planning my next visit to try the beef ribs and musubi with my daughter, eager to explore more of their mouthwatering menu. Supporting local restaurants and young entrepreneurs is something I'm passionate about, and Honu Hawaiian BBQ makes it incredibly easy to do just that.

We went to the business on a weekend and ordered the beef ribs and the masubi. The ribs tasted really good. You get 3 ribs, rice, and macaroni salad. The masubi had a slim piece of spam and overstuffed with rice. The ribs were fatty and barely had meat on it. This is a fast food place, which I knew, but is priced at a premium. It took a long time for the order to be ready and we sat at a food court area of the business plaza. It was hot inside and the tables were dirty. I asked one of the staff of the food court area if there was anyway to clean the tables, he gave me a cocktail napkin for me to clean myself. Very Unsatisfactory. When our food was ready, I asked for some water and she gave me a very small cup of warm water, no ice in it. I’m not a person that demands anything, I want to see how businesses treat their guests and I can share to others. Keep in mind, it is very hot outside, Very Inexcusable for a business to welcome guests to clean their own table, give warm water on a hot day and have them sit down in a warm dining area. If paying for premium price for food, you should be treated well. Disappointed time and will not go...

I have came here two times and will definitely be back for a third. The first time I brought a friend and then the second time we brought another friend. Both of them loved it! I’m not sure why people are complaining about the wait the lady is nice enough to let everyone know that the food is MADE TO ORDER meaning they cook it AFTER you order. I believe it’s worth it and very delicious because it comes out at the perfect temperature. We have an hour lunch and it’s only ever taken 15-20 minutes max and that is on a Friday for lunch.

My favorite would be the short rib and second would be the garlic shrimp. It is very filling and the portions are big as you can see in the photo.

I can say this is a hidden little gem in the corner of this shopping center. If you are debating, TRY IT you will...
