Crab Du Jour Turnersville — Restaurant in Washington Township

I recently had a terrible experience at Crab du Jour in Turnersville, NJ that left a bad taste in my mouth, quite literally. From the moment we walked in, the hospitality was lacking. Instead of a warm welcome, the young Asian male waiter with a bowl hair cut and AirPods hanging from his ears, immediately questioned how many of us were there. There was five in our party. Two children, three adults. He pointed to a rather worn out handwritten sign taped to the counter near the cash register imposing an automatic 18% gratuity for parties of five or more. This initial interaction set the tone for what turned out to be an unpleasant evening.

Throughout the meal, his demeanor remained unfriendly and indifferent.

When it was time to pay the check, I used my Cash App card. Earlier in the week, I had to put a lock on my Cash App card due to attempted theft, but despite being unable to unlock it, I tried to use it anyway. As I anticipated, the card declined.

The Asian waiter, loudly called out my first name across the restaurant to inform me that my credit card had been declined! This unnecessary public announcement was embarrassing and completely unprofessional. When I confronted him about calling my name across the restaurant, instead of apologizing, he retorted with a dismissive attitude, saying "That's what I do." I responded, "Well you shouldn’t do that to customers! It’s inappropriate!" He retorted, "You don’t have to teach me that!" I firmly replied, "Obviously I do!" After that, I handed him an alternate credit card, which he took before walking away. When he returned to our table and I extended my hand for the paper check to sign. Instead of handing it to me, he simply placed it on the table in a manner that felt deliberately disrespectful.

Overall, the service at Crab du Jour was shockingly unaccommodating and I have been a customer there since they opened in 2020. From the rude greeting to the public embarrassment over the declined credit card and the dismissive attitude of the waiter, our experience was marred by unprofessionalism and disrespect. Such blatant disregard for customer service and basic courtesy is unacceptable in any dining establishment. I called a few times to place my order and no one answered. I placed it online instead. I ordered Pick your catch, which is or was previously equivalent to a bucket, basket, or bag at every seafood establishment I’ve eaten. Everything came separately. I’ve ordered that same thing twice before it was all together. The sausage was in a take out container instead of mixed with the seafood. I called and spoke to Anthony who told me if I wanted it all together I had to specify that. I’m perplexed! Why is it on the menu as if it’s together when it all comes separately? Anthony said some ppl want it separate so it’s the rule he made. The snow crab was hollow, the scallop was flavorless, dry side of sausage and they gave me the wrong sauce. I ordered seafood boil and a lobster separately. The sauce is really good but I felt they just took everything including the lobster tail which they were not supposed to but they threw it all in a Reynolds oven roast a bag and just microwaved it. My crabs were overcooked and they don't provide the proper utensils to pick crab or lobster meat out of the shell. Everything was crumbly. The lobster was 16.95 and it should have been cooked separately not thrown in the boil because it had no flavor of a lobster just flavor of the potatoes and corn so it was a waste of my money. The staff is not very welcoming they don't even thank you after a tip. There was a part of the restaurant that was not used it look like there was just storage things there. There were employees sitting back there talking and watching it sound like masters of horror. The restaurant was empty, and the food served fast.
