This place is awesome. The staff is great. I've been coming here, happenstance, since day 2. They have always remembered me walking in the door, even when it's packed full. The selection is focused on local brews and distillate. They have some other liquors, but really just to try and please everyone, which you can't always do anyway. The focus is mainly on local. They make some great selections for stock and are consistently knowledgeable on everything in there. They will gladly toss you a suggestion if you ask for it or can guide you in the right direction if you are uncertain. They don't serve food from a kitchen, but they do have some snacks on hand and will pass you a book full of local places you can order and have delivered. Cozy basement bar tucked under Bantam King with happy hour - $2 off beer, wine, and cocktails. The only downside is that there's no traditional bar food served besides some lights snacks.

The "Spicy Brown Derby" cocktail is refreshing with a hint of sweetness from the grapefruit, honey, and ginger beer that complement the bourbon. It hit the spot and got another round! I preferred the "Spicy Brown Derby" over the "Cherry Sparkle" cocktail.

The bubbly "Cherry Sparkle" was a bit dry and tart. The ingredients didn't quite blend together - gin, cherry syrup, lemon, and cremant (drier than champagne).

Had a chance to drop by Free State Bar the other evening and found it to be a nice spot to relax and catch up with friends. The bar has a welcoming ambiance, paired with a diverse drink menu that caters to different preferences. The staff was approachable and provided prompt service. I particularly appreciated the comfortable seating and the background music, which set a good mood without being too loud.
