Drinks are fine. Had a great beer and a pretty good dirty martini. But the food is awful. Prefacing this to say that I ate here twice for the same reason anyone eats at a hotel bar twice: it was raining and I'm unfamiliar with the area so I didn't want to go get soaked to end up somewhere else that sucked.
First came down around lunch and got a caprese sandwich. Didn't realize it came with a side, and was pleased to see some spinach on my plate with it. Except that's all it was. Unseasoned, uncooked, undressed spinach. Plain spinach, still with the crush marks on it from the plastic bag it clearly came out of. The sandwich itself would have been passable, except by the time it made it to me it was half-cold and soggy, which made the singular raw tomato slice have an uncomfortable gelatinous texure, and the bread was damp enough for my fingers to punch through.
Thought maybe it was a fluke and went down for a quick dinner bite (also it was still raining). As I said, the martini was fine, but the $17 Brussels sprouts I ordered numbered fewer than 17, which feels like a bit of a rip on the face of it. These too, like the salad, were complete unseasoned, and while the outside leaves were nicely fried and crisp, the insides were basically raw. They were at least hot, but they were so firm and solid that the butter knife I was supplied with almost couldn't cut them.
Have these people never seen a vegetable before?
Don't waste your time. Brave the rain. I will from here on out, regardless of...
Read moreI ordered the Meat the Press Pizza for $19!!! WOW! What a price for a pizza for one. Now, I will say that it was good, but way overpriced. I have never paid that much for one personal pizza. It was a decent size and the flavor was great. The crust was soft and cooked to a perfect crisp. I went to this restaurant for a work luncheon and was immediately taken by the high class look of the place. The server was very friendly and professional. The menu was easy to read and so were the prices. I do understand that the restaurant is inside the Hilton and in the middle of D.C. but I still can't get over the price. My co-workers had a club sandwich and two burgers and they said that the food was good but the fries are what really stood out. The average was $20 per dish. So, would I go here again for lunch... No, not if I'm buying. I think my pizza should be at least $15, as for everyone else's dish they need to be a lot cheaper. Even though the food tasted good the price needs a lot cheaper,...
Read moreProbably the worst place we've been to in a while. Food was so-so but service was awful. From having to find our own table to being shooed away from empty tables "because we're very very busy" to being told to "go to the other restaurant over there" to "we're really busy tonight so it's gonna be a little while" to having to wait 90 minutes for our food, it was just a terrible experience. Other tables nearby appeared to have similar experiences, with some people getting up and walking out before their food was served and others asking for takeout containers once the food arrived. We canceled our appetizer because they brought it out at the same time as our entrees. Meanwhile, I had to nurse a glass of wine the entire time that I had ordered intending to drink WITH my dinner.
McClellan's is the type of place that will always get business because of where it is. The clientele is largely transient and non-repeat so they really don't care if they get bad reviews and they have no...
