My partner and I order pizza every weekend on a rotation. Last weekend was Papa John's again, which is less frequent because Waterford won't even deliver to us literally 2 miles away because it's New London. We regularly spend $30+ on food, because we get our own pizzas, and share a side and desert. (That sounds bad, but we keep leftovers for lunches.) When we ordered through the app she read me off the new Italian Hero: salami, pepperoni, Roma tomatoes, onions, banana peppers, and four cheeses. Great, awesome, I love all those and overlook "creamy Italian sauce." Italian sauce can be anything. Pizza sauce is technically an Italian sauce, most tomato sauces, most pasta sauces; Alfredo is a creamy Italian sauce. All of which would've been an acceptable sauce on a pizza. What does not come to mind and is not described is that it's an absolutely disgusting, tangy salad dressing. I have never regretted a bite like that first surprised bite. It's atrocious. Normally I try to readjust my expectations and power through instead of letting food go to waste, but after a second bite I could not.
I called the store for the first time in the two years we've been regulars, because I couldn't eat my pizza and I wanted to order one with normal sauce. An associate answers, and I explain that the "sauce" on the Italian Hero is terrible. Before I can even ask if they'll do the same promo with a different sauce, he starts going on about how they "all tried the pizza, and yeah, some don't like it, but some do, it's personal taste," and, "I'm on the app right not and it says right there 'creamy Italian sauce.'" Not one word or care about if I'd like another pizza or suggesting other products to substitute my dinner.
After all my years in customer service, that flabbergasted me, so I asked if they cared at all if customers enjoy their food, and all he said was, "We don't give out free pizza," and it's the GM's policy who is not in the store. If he was worried I was trying to get an additional pizza for free, I would've happily driven that vile original back with me for them to throw out themselves when I would've had to go back for a replacement. Instead we shared the one other normal pizza we already had, and I am absolutely never considering Papa John's again. It's either my local store has a bad manager for this business, or Papa John's has bad policies in the wake of Papa John himself that will lose it its...
Read moreI can really only give this a four out of five cause while I do like Papa John’s, there are some things that need to be pointed out. First time I ordered them was the day after 4th of July last year and I had no problems, but I recently ordered from them on DoorDash yesterday since they were nearby my girl’s place.
I ordered a garlic stuffed crust pizza and some wings for me, and a regular stuffed crust pizza with some breadsticks for my girlfriend. She had no problems with her food, but when I took the first three slices of my garlic stuffed crust, I don’t know if it was something with the pizza or not but my stomach felt a little weird. Every time I take slices of the garlic one, I always can’t help but wash my hands afterwards, which I could give a shit less about.
I later decided to eat my wings, and while they are decently enjoyable, they need to be tossed in more sauce. I had to grab BBQ sauce from my girl’s fridge and apply it to my wings, could give a shit less about that too, and it was a bit better. But these guys gotta toss their wings in more sauce. No one wants a dry wing.
On another note, when I ordered from them at the beginning of the year, I got the Chicken Parm Bites, which were ok, and the pizza sauce that came with them had a slight sweet tang, like lemon or something, which I honestly wasn’t fond of. And I don’t know if that’s the same sauce they also give with the breadsticks or not, but come on. We don’t want a sweet sauce with the breadsticks.
Will it be my last time ordering from them again? I don’t know, but for now, this gets a 4/5. (Subscribe to Doughtoli...
Read moreI ordered by phone and when I got there to pick up, it still wasn't ready. They finally called my order and he verified it. They had mixed it up with another order, but still had me pay and I had to wait all over again! When they finally handed me my order, I noticed it was missing one of the ingredients. They literally discussed in front of me how they were simply going to warm up the ingredients and toss them on top. And that's exactly what they did! Then I realized the other toppings were barely noticeable. (Their promotion stated double the meat, and it was hard to spot it.) I was very late and didn't even want to bother with the hassle of complaining. The guy who handed me the order kept apologizing and seemed legitimate about it, but I couldn't get over how unkept his appearance was (dirty shirt and sweaty). I will not be ordering again from this place. Long wait, very pricey and not good taste all. I ended up throwing...
