TLDR: Our orders arrived all types of messed up, cleanliness needs to get more focus, and servers need to be more attentive to their tables.
I really tried to be positive, but I'm so disappointed :( My mom heard such good things about this restaurant, so my husband and I took her here for Mother's Day. There was lots of seating and it wasn't very busy, so we got our choice of table. Ours ended up being dirty, but we didn't notice 'til after we'd already sat down. It wasn't awful though and we could see that others were dirty too (worth mentioning that there was also garbage on the floor), we decided to just stay where we were. The person taking our order was nice, but everyone working seemed a bit flustered. The complimentary chips and dip ratio was a bit off I think, we only used half of our chips and don't usually run into that problem. When the server brought our drinks, he grabbed them by the rim of the glasses with the same hand he'd just wiped sweat off his face with. It didn't feel worth calling out though, so we just got some straws and called it good enough. The bottles of Jarritos we got were nice and cold and came with cups with ice, which I really appreciated. Tables that came after us had their order taken first, but we did mention we had another person coming, so they might have been waiting on him. Once it was time to order, I made sure to mention that I didn't want cheese or sour cream with my meal (I can't have dairy lol), he said okay and everything seems good. My husband likes to look out for me though, so he went up to double check the server had written it down and everyone seemed to be on the same page. When our food came was when issues started to arise even more. I got the fajita dinner, they forgot my tortillas (though I asked and was brought some), and my rice and beans came with cheese and sour cream after asking twice for them not to. My husband ordered the burrito dinner, which ended up not coming with rice and beans for some reason, so I just gave mine to him and said it was fine. When my husband cut into his burrito, it was the wrong type (he ordered 5 de Mayo and got ground beef). He told one of the guys though and they got him the right one. He also ordered mozzarella sticks, which said they came with fries. When they came without fries, he told our server who went to go check with someone else, then came back and said they didn't come together. My husband checked the menu, which said they did, and then they brought his fries. My mom and brother's meals came as expected which was a relief. Our server never checked on our table or got us refills on our waters, it wouldn't have been a thing, but it was really hard to flag people down when we needed stuff. Once we finally got our leftovers boxed up (an hour and a half after our arrival), we asked for the check. They said on Facebook or something that mothers would get their meal for free, luckily my husband looked at the receipt and noticed that they forgot to take mine and my mom's meals off the bill. When he mentioned it to them, they said they'd take off my mom's, and I don't think any of us wanted to ask for mine too at that point lol we just wanted to get on with our day and enjoy the sunshine. It may have been a unique experience we ran into, but I don't think we'll be back to find out. Food was...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreCinco de Mayo Restaurant located at 131 W Sunset Drive Waukesha is a hidden gem! This new restaurant replaces what was formerly Plaza Family Restaurant and offers fresh made carnitas and tamales daily. I am not aware of any other local establishment doing this. Order a plate and dine in or by the pound at the restaurant or their grocery store right next door. Fresh chips and pico de gallo were brought immediately to our table and were wonderful. The red salsa was excellent and the slightly creamy salsa verde was outstanding. Both were bold and flavorful and had the perfect amount of heat for both of us. My wife ordered the steak chimichangas which were very good. They were served with beans, rice and a small salad. I ordered the carnitas plate which included 1# of meat, fresh cilantro and onions and 8 tortillas. The well seasoned pork would have been a standout on it's own but the creamy salsa verde took it to the next level. It would be worth returning for this dish alone however we look forward to trying their other offerings as well as their breakfast. Service was excellent and efficient. Prices are reasonable and portions are huge. It was nice to see soft drinks starting at $3 and beers starting at $3.50. I have seen them nearly double this at other local places. We all know and love our well established Mexican restaurants in town but make room for this one. I believe it is a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSaw a rave review in a FB group yesterday and felt like it was worth trying Cinco De Mayo #2 for dinner tonight.
HOLY SMOKES are we impressed!
Fresh pico de gallo served with warm chips is complimentary when dining in. INCREDIBLY flavorful carne asada steak as well as the rice & beans. Meat seemed to be of a high grade with no gristly bits (those stringy weird meat chunks).
Also highly impressed with the Chile Relleno (ordered with no tomato sauce and crema on the side). They were crisp on the outside and cheesy on the inside. One was EXTRA large. I haven't liked a Chile relleno in Waukesha county since Casa Del Rio/Ole was around! Cinco De Mayo just changed all that for me tonight. My "fussy" order was executed perfectly too.
Did I mention the rice was super flavorful and the taco meat? Seriously, every component of our meal was packed with delicious flavor!
We arrived just before 7:30pm and were the only diners. 8pm close (the doors indicate 10pm) but we were not rushed out in any way.
We have a new favorite and we WILL be back. I encourage anyone to try this place out for an...
