AVOID THE PARAMUS NJ STORE, I have been a loyal PC Richard customer since 1997. Last week our 1997 GE refrigerator finally failed, beyond repair, so we visited PC Richard’s store in Paramus, NJ store. We were assisted by team member “George.” George was very courteous and did his best to locate the models in which we were interested. Unfortunately, every model was backordered. I asked if he could check other locations. George explained that all inventory came from one warehouse in Carteret, NJ. We desperately needed a new refrigerator so I asked George if we could purchase the floor model. He reached out to his manager and said it would be possible. Since the model we wanted had an ice maker George asked if we had a water supply line – we did. He asked, is it a copper line? I answered, no its plastic line the same as GE supplies with their optional installation kits. He explained “we can’t sell or install the unit without a copper line – it’s code” I explained that changing the supply line was not possible and that I would be willing to install the refrigerator myself. “Sorry, we can’t do that – it’s code!”
The next day I called PC Richard’s corporate offices in Long Island, NY. They were unaware of any such policy or code. Since it was 15 minutes before the end of their workday they abruptly transferred me back to “George” at the Paramus store. George recited the same store policy – it was like a scene from the movie Ground Hog Day! Obviously, customer satisfaction was not one of their metrics. I also called GE who told me that they have no such requirement though a copper water supply line could be used if that was what was available. More important, a plastic supply line was recommended since copper lines can “kink” or crack when the line is flexed as you pull the refrigerator out to clean behind it. Next, I called BestBuy, Lowes, and Home Depot to see if they had such a policy. They did not and mentioned that installation kits use the plastic water line, and the internal water lines in the refrigerator are also all plastic. Finally, I called our local building inspector who verified that no such plumbing “code” exists in New Jersey.
Still in need of a new refrigerator I decided to visit PC Richard’s store in Wayne, NJ. “Jose P” assisted me. I explained what had transpired; Jose was shocked to hear how we were treated. He also commented that PC Richards has more than one warehouse, so Carteret was not the only location to look for product. Within a few minutes Jose found the model we wanted. He also shared our experience with his manager who apologized for the Paramus store’s behavior. Some people might say Jose was a good salesperson. I see it quite differently – Jose is a resolute PC Richards employee who genuinely wanted the customer’s experience to be a positive experience, which would motivate the customer to be a return customer – he succeeded! It is people like Jose who have allowed PC Richards to be in business for over 100 years. While PC Richards will still be my first choice, I strongly suggest you avoid the Paramus NJ store and reach out to PC Richard’s in Wayne, NJ. PC Richard’s is a top-notch store. It is unfortunate that the Paramus store does not live up to PC Richard’s overall...
Read moreUpdate as of 7/2-after calling the store and José multiple times we were finally offered a $50 gift card or credit back to our payment method. We requested the payment credit-it’s now been weeks and we never received it. Such a shame because PC Richard should be a place we can trust since they have such a monopoly on wall air conditioners in our area. We need a new one soon for our living room -what do we do now?
I am leaving my original review below because it was truthful. However, since the A/C was installed, we had to contact Jose on his direct cell (as he requested we do at the time of sale) to express some concerns. We were charged another $65 for the install and not explained clearly why - he told us if the price went up to let him know and he’d “see what he could do.” The installers also left a huge mess inside and outside our home, including large nails, wood pieces, insulation, etc. We left a voicemail right after the installation and did not get a return call. We also texted and called again. Finally we got him to answer the phone but he was driving Friday. He asked we text the pictures to him and he’d get back to us when he was in the store over the weekend. We are now 7 days past the original voicemail we left, and we have received no resolution. He did finally reply to a text this morning after we texted again last night saying today it will be resolved. I’ll be happy to update this review once we reach a resolution. (Posted June 10)
Posted June 1-Jose was very helpful with our a/c needs. He made sure our size would fit perfectly and offered his direct number in the event we need to change anything in our order before delivery. He also thoroughly explained the extended warranty and did not pressure us into buying it or a store credit card. Would recommend visiting him in the...
Read moreAbsolutely worst experience I ever had with a purchase. I purchase a 17,000 refrigerator from the PC Richard’s in Wayne, NJ from Moe. This refrigerator was purchase back in June. I waited over 2 months to get a 17,000 refrigerator with the front stainless panel missing making it impossible to open the refrigerator. They removed my old refrigerator that was working fine and left me with a refrigerator that was missing a door and not completely installed. I contacted Moe my sales person many times and was told that this matter would be taking care of and I would get compensation for the inconvenience. 5 months later and still not resolved. I took off 2 days work(2 months apart) waiting for the replacement panel and proper installation. Twice they NEVER showed and when I called after waiting until the end of the 5 hour window I was told the panel was damaged (3 damaged panels) I was told by Moe that I would be receiving a phone call by the store manager on the Wayne , NJ store. 5 months later and still waiting! Since I wasn’t getting any help from Moe, the store manager and district manager I called my credit card company to hold the payment and filed a claim. After that Moe contacted me to tell me I HAVE to withdraw the credit card hold in order for them to fix my issue. SO I DID because I had no choice if I wanted a complete working refrigerator for my $17,000 that I had spent. In conclusion, I took today off from work again to wait for PC RICHARD to come and install my refrigerator and AGAIN after waiting all day I was told they aren’t coming because the panel was DAMAGED (3rd panel) THIS IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE!!!
DO NOT BUY FROM PC RICHARD ESPECIALLY A HIGH...
