My recent visit to Jersey Barbell left me deeply disappointed due to the establishment's unfair policies, intimidation tactics, and inconsistent enforcement, coupled with poor customer service.
As someone returning from a major injury and having trained with some of the most elite martial art athletes, I have a deep appreciation for the importance of respect and gym etiquette. It was disheartening to be penalized for a minor infraction despite my efforts to ensure the safety and cleanliness of the gym environment.
Upon entering my workout session, I’m greeted by a staff member Denny with a facial expression like I’ve committed murder. He said I’m being given a warning for not placing an $800 squat bar on a rack the prior day, despite placing it on the ground in a designated rerack area. I was told I would be charged a $10 fee the next time, $20 a second time and then revocation of my gym membership. I literally searched the powerlifting area for a rack to place it on and videotape would show this. Every single rack on the wall was taken up by a piece of equipment because of the very limited space of the gym. What's more, the individual who confronted me about the matter attempted to intimidate me, which I found both unprofessional, amusing, and so adorable. It's disappointing to encounter such behavior from staff members who should be fostering a welcoming and supportive atmosphere for all members.
Furthermore, I've observed certain members blatantly disregarding gym etiquette by leaving weights and equipment in disarray, yet no action is taken against them. This stark contrast in treatment creates a sense of unfairness, discrimination, and frustration among members who genuinely strive to maintain a clean and organized gym in an already overcrowded and small space.
To add to my disappointment, I've also witnessed the owner Deanna and other members violating policies by videotaping their workouts on tripods without obtaining consent from other members. These tripods have also been placed in the walkways which is against company policy. This lack of accountability and inconsistency further erodes trust and undermines the overall gym experience.
I urge Jersey Barbell to reevaluate their policies, enforcement procedures, and staff training to ensure fairness, consistency, and professionalism for all members. Implementing transparent guidelines and fostering a culture of mutual respect and accountability would greatly enhance the gym's atmosphere and reputation.
In conclusion, my experience at Jersey Barbell was marred by unfair policies, intimidation tactics, inconsistent enforcement, and subpar customer service. Until significant improvements are made, I cannot recommend this establishment to others seeking a positive fitness...
Read moreImmediately signed up after seeing the facility. Coming from a regular commercial gym, this place is a dream. Everything is brand new, they have proper iron and KG plates for powerlifting, plenty of squat racks, platforms to deadlift, benches, tons of different types of bars, 160 pound dumbbells, posing room, sauna. It’s all clean, the weights are all racked. One review complained about an age restriction - good, coming from Crunch gym filled with high schoolers destroying quirky and leaving weights everywhere, I’m glad there is an age requirement. The price is also fantastic for the equipment they have, gyms like this are easily over $100/month. This place is a breathe of fresh air, and I’ll be here regularly to train. Can’t recommend this place enough for anyone who’s seriously into bodybuilding and...
Read moreI would never recommend this gym to anyone. When I arrived, the door was locked and I had to yell through the glass to get the staff member's attention. Once inside, I mentioned wanting to sign up and that my employer plan, which they advertise as accepted, offers a free guest pass. The employee was very rude as he said a loud 'no' multiple times, even when I showed him the details. He dismissively told me to tour the gym on my own, and he kept staring at me the entire time, which was very off-putting. The gym is also very tiny and cramped in itself. Does not have a large variety and you’ll be waiting for a machine no doubt! Never come here. This gym isn't what anyone is looking for with a staff like that behaving so indecently. Do not waste your...
