This review is 100% on how management failed to retain a customer, and their actions escalated into a poor review.
After years, ever since purchasing Sagebrush, I've been a patron to Dodge City Steakhouse.
Today's occasion left me as no longer a customer, I called in advance to make an order as I often when traveling past this location, as I am a busy business owner and advanced orders allows me to eat while traveling. I really don't have time to sit down and enjoy a meal unfortunately, there's not enough hours in my day.
When I called Dodge City, as always I specifically told them I want four rolls with a well done beef tips with crusted blue cheese.
When I arrive there, I noticed I only had two rolls is which is what I use to make a slider out of my meals. as I'm driving, you can't really eat a steak without eating it as a sandwich.
So I received two rolls and asked the bartender for 2 more rolls, and she proceeded to tell me I needed to pay for the extra two rolls. I already paid for 4 rolls as that's what I ordered. upon further discovery, I discovered my meal was not cooked as requested, there was no blue cheese melted into the meat and the rolls were as hard as a rock.
I mentioned this to the bartender and she instantly got defensive and started talking about they need to be proofed, well then why aren't they proved? You're a restaurant, you know you've got customers coming for dinner and yet you have no rolls "proofed". That's not really my concern, my concern is to get what I ordered and paid for. I asked for the manager and when she finally showed up she was also extremely defensive and said well here I'll just give you your money back and immediately pulled the meal I've been preparing from me. At this point I've been to the restaurant 15 minutes, after 15 minutes ordering in advance.
Instead of being professional, and saying I'm sorry sir let me just discount your order because we didn't fulfill it as expected and can't provide what we offer. Instead she started arguing with me, escalating the situation unnecessarily.
After this incident, it's left me a horrible taste in my mouth, the management delivery of professional results was lacking and at this point I will no longer be patronizing Dodge City Steakhouse. I've had previous issues with this restaurant, and it's dismissed them.
There are plenty of other options, and when I travel to Asheville from the other side of the mountains with limited options. I look for places to eat different than what we have available in our town. I have bukus's options, and at this point Dodge City will no longer be one of them.

Read moreI was so excited when dodge city took over Sagebrush. When they first switched everyone was raving how great it is.
Here’s the thing. It’s horrible!! Here’s why… I usually go for dinner and I always do carry out. They’ve got the phone way on the other side so no one answers it, so you have to load your kids ands drive all the way out there and then wait with your hangry family while you sit and wait. The first time I tried hard to give the benefit of the doubt bc change over and all, but 3x in a row basically the same food wrong and hateful manager. No thanks! First, if my order is wrong and I need to call, I should be able to get through for help. Second, my 1 yo is crazy over sweet potatoes so I always get him one. I spend a good 10 minutes all the times peeling off nasty dried and burnt potato. They rarely give you everything you need for it either. Tonight no sugar cinnamon, no butter. The last 3x my husband and I ordered beef tips. First time we got medium well and they were beef jerky. Second time hubby told manager and she’s like well you should check it before you leave. What, you want me to take a bite in the middle of the store to see if it’s jerky? They gave a discount this time, but we got the same thing.! Not jerky this time but def wellllll done. Tonight, I won’t go back ever again and deserve a refund. My older son complained his food tasted weird and it did! The sweet potato for my youngest was so overcooked he hardly got any of it. Gave us the wrong veggie. No gravy that we asked for. And this time we decided to order medium beef tips. For heavens sake they were well done again. I’m not a big complainer, but this has me so upset. No one would eat their food and I ended up making food anyway. I couldn’t call, because guess what- no answering! Too bad bc this place could have good potential, with new cooks and new management in...
Read moreServer/wait staff was excellent. Walked in couple staff at the bar talking, one appeared to be manager. Let us stand there as they looked over. Wait staff was running hard and working like crazy while staff at bar talked.
Ribeye steak had the texture of like a pork chop. Remind me the ones you see come from like a waffle house that are pre-pack in plastic. Baked potato wasn’t too bad you could tell It had been cooked much earlier in the day. Salad was average. Place was full on a Saturday night, quite surprised with the quality of food being below average. We walked in the place and it was as quiet as can be …no music playing other than a front speaker by the front door that buzzed loudly.
Creepy Twilight zone vibe.
. and when you walked inside between little decor, no music and the awkwardness as people waited to not be greeted and folks sitting at tables just looking over chewing on the tough steak…. unless it was one of the overworked Wait staff running over to try to help seat people you were going to stand awhile.
Put that wait Staff in a better atmosphere, better leadership and with better food… you got a great stew going on!
My wife got sick afterwards, and I had a hard time eating my steak with all the hard gristle. I feel like I’m going to hurl now.
We are easy to please people and when something comes wvl we try couple times before saying we will not go back. On this one based on the steak… no way! and wvl could use another good steakhouse.
Water tasted like it came out of the tap. I don’t think it was filtered. In NC that’s a standard to get at least filtered water… this ain’t Fla.
Laatly smelled like port-a toilet water was used to mop the floors and wipe the tables. What’s up?!
Time to dismount this dead horse and make room for a...
