Jack the Dipper Ice Cream Parlor — Restaurant in Waynesville

I really wanted to like this place I went there probably a dozen times before writing this review but my observation is:

The staff is perfectly helpful if you have any questions that they can't answer they just ask. I always tip they've always been great. The waffle cones are great as well

It's just the ice cream itself is not good quality.

So far every fruity flavor I have tried tastes like artificial flavoring and looks like it has artificial coloring as well. My daughter is very sensitive to red dye and it makes her sick. I love bananas but the artificial banana flavor is gross. Same with strawberries.

The ice cream itself is not very rich it reminds me of kind of cheap grocery store ice cream just with a lot more flavor options.

Also I live with somebody who's lactose intolerant and there's almost nothing for him ever.

You walk in and your hit with a delicious smell of ice cream and fresh waffle cones. Waffle cones are made to order so they are nice and warm - this makes your ice cream softer and creamier to the taste.

The flavor offerings were abundant and the prices were fair. Serving sizes were also large and above worth more than what you pay.

What knocks down the stars for me, is the cleanliness and overall conditions. The place is dirty both inside and out. Vents inside look like they have not been cleaned since the place opened. Giant holes in the walls where majority of the indoor seating is. Yuck…

Staff was nice and friendly and very helpful. However, cleanliness is huge as who knows what cleaning tactics are being used when handling your food. We unfortunately will not return here on...

I used to come as often as possible because of their unique and high quality ice cream, but I was shocked and saddened that the new owner switched to Hershey's, which you can get anywhere and is lower in quality than premium brands at a grocery store. Assuming this was a cost-saving move (I get it as I own a company myself), it is certain to backfire as my friends and I will only return when top quality ice cream returns. I used to rave about Jack the Dipper...was my fave ice cream spot anywhere. They still have great warm waffle cones and friendly staff.
