added a new fish shack (sorta) recently to my go-to list of favorite fish shacks. check out Hoss & Mary’s food truck at congdon’s after dark. the owners are lovely people, and they served up a good plate of fried haddock—very tasty, very generously portioned, very reasonably priced, and served with a super good dill pickly-ish (word? not word?) tartar sauce that reminds us why we eat fish to begin with. Came with good coleslaw and crunchy-on-the-outside, soft-on-the-inside fries, perfectly done and nicely seasoned (and thankfully without that icky coating that some have). the only thing missing was black pepper (not a failing), which i added with abandon (…good, keep going, bit more, ah right there. perfect. looks like you dropped it in dirt…), because i have no class.
tried a barreled souls honey dip blonde ale, and it was…interesting. you know that mildly nauseating smell when you walk into a candle shop? it was like pouring that smell into a cup, adding honey, and calling it ale, which was…interesting. be sticking with my favorite lone pine citrusy portland pale ale for the time being, but glad i tried the other. mostly. there was live entertainment, which we enjoyed, and lots of mosquitos, also a brand of live entertainment, which we did not.
at closing time, congdon’s passed around (gratis) the remainder of the day’s baked goods. all was well until i looked at the table in front of me and saw… (wait for it…) …beer and doughnuts. yup, come home to maine. all i need is a rusty washer in the front yard and my look...
Read moreA decent selection of food trucks to choose from. Some only took cash, but there was an ATM on site available to use. We got things from a couple different trucks and enjoyed our small ‘meal’. Not sure the name of the BBQ place, but we got the Mac n Cheeze with pulled pork and the Smoked Meatloaf sandwich, both were good, just extremely pricey for what you get. There was barely a sprinkling of pulled pork on the Mach chz, so that was very disappointing for $14!! The sandwich came with a bag of chips & a choice out of 2 soda cans for $15. The potato place we got fries with chz & bacon on was really good. They were freshly cut & fried, not bagged and quite tasty. The donut place was out of every kind of donut except coconut, so we didn’t get to try anything there. This seemed to be a very popular place for people to go on a Friday night. They had live music that was just starting as we were leaving. Probably would not eat here again, just because it was so expensive for what you get. We would definitely rather a sit down restaurant meal for the prices we paid and for what little food we...

My general impression here is: It’s overpriced and the food isn’t outstanding; it’s okay.
Sandwich Shack: I’m not usually this person, but if i wasn’t already waiting to order for 10 minutes and then additionally waiting for my order to come out for 20 minutes to rejoin my group, I would’ve requested a refund. The staff was incredibly sluggish as if they weren’t running a business, the prices on the menu were NOT what they charge you, the owners children were fighting on the back deck where you pick up orders, and the food both looked and tasted like they slapped it into a microwave. Genuinely horrid.
Knew Potato Caboose: Usually sitting outback. Love the options— it’s mostly all french fry sides done up in different ways. Overpriced for what you get, but you can depend on it tasting good.
Crepe Elizabeth: Good yes. Mostly sweet but there’s some savory options too....
