Mike's Clam Shack — Restaurant in Wells

Not impressed with this place & don’t understand all the glowing reviews. They are why we went… Our food was bland, overcooked & subpar. Over 150 spent on food that was worse than fast food take out! Seriously! Only giving 2 stars cuz the apps were good & hubby liked his lobster pie. My lobster meal: lobster was quite fishy in the claws, tail was a bit rubbery. The Brussel sprouts were like golf balls! Hard as rocks, barely cooked & not edible imo. My son got broiled scallops which he barely touched, over cooked, rubbery, not juicy at all! No flavor, not Impressed. (We had amazing scallops yesterday at Lobster in the Rough in York for much less $$! Soft, juicy & flavorful, cooked perfectly!) Best thing- the apps: the overpriced chicken tenders- 6 small tenders for $11! But they were light & crisp & quite good & the garlic cheese bread was very good. Also my son said the peanut butter pie was good. My husband said the lobster pie was pretty good. Overall a lot of $ for a poor- mediocre meal at best. I’ve eaten at a lot of places in the area & this is one of the worst I’ve had. Lobster Cove’s (York) lobster is amazing, every time! I don’t cook lobster so am not sure if it’s something in how it’s cooked or not. I just know this lobster was not very good . I was pretty disappointed in this meal & will likely not be back. There are too many other/better options. Sucks we spent so much & had this experience. Not cool. I hate complaining, am not outspoken & certainly won’t hunt down a server to complain. Our server came back very early on to ask us how everything was & we hadn’t even tried the lobster or scallops yet. She didn’t come back again until we were almost done. In retrospect I do wish I had looked for her & said something as we left very disappointed & didn’t even eat the leftovers. The only thing my son & I liked was the garlic cheese bread & chicken tenders. A lot to spend to get tiny chicken tenders & some bread. Luckily I had a baked potato so I got somewhat full with that. Hard to mess up a baked potato. With so many great food options in the area I’d recommend skipping this place! There are much, much better options! Seriously our Popeyes chicken meal...

Been to Wells many times over the years, but never stopped at Mike's until this trip. Always avoided it as the parking lot is always jammed so figured out would be a long wait for a table - but looks are deceiving as my wife and I were seated within 5 minutes and the place is huge inside!!! Everything we had was incredible, had to have the clam chowder - I wouldn't recommend doing this but I produced to bathe in it. We also ordered the fried mushrooms - OMG - these are not your regular 'mass produced, come in a bag frozen' fried mushrooms - just by looks alone you can see the breathing is homemade, and the portion for an appetizer was insane!!! I had a hard time seeing a few left in the basket so I just had to eat them. Actual dinners - my wife had the stuffed haddock, she said it was real good, I really wanted to try it but I have a slight allergy to shrimp, the stuffing was loaded with baby shrimp. I had the 'half and half' baked haddock and scallops - was so loaded with great flavor I cried a little with tears of joy rolling down my face. Ok, not really, but there aren't enough colors in a box of crayons to paint an accurate picture of how amazing this was. Our server Lisa was very friendly and did not leave us 'stranded' like some places do. You know, where it seems like you start to wonder if your server took a break or ended their shift part way through your visit cause you don't see them for what seems like forever. Thank you to Lisa for the hospitality!!! To add to my collection, I had to grab a hat. All sorts of shirts and stickers, golf balls, etc available as well. So, I've added this place to our list of "have to's" of places we eat at when we visit Wells. 5 star rating for 6 star quality and service!!! See you...

We come from Vermont 2 to 3 times a year and always go to Mikes!! We will probably not go again due to the awful service we received Friday night!! 1st - ordered a bottle of wine, menu said $27.00, waitress came back and asked me “if I had seen this wine in the menu”. I said “yes,” showed her it on the menu. She came back with a different bottle of wine, said i had an old menu and proceeded to leave the different bottle of wine, which came at the price of $33.00. Quite a difference. 2nd. She took our orders for drinks, took around 15 minutes to get 2 drinks, came back and pushed us to order. 3rd So we ordered apps, we had some left so asked her for a to go box, she stood at our table until I put the item in the box then grabbed the plate right off the table, 4th she came back finally and husband had finished his drink probably 15 minutes ago, he ordered another drink and 5th we ordered our food and his drink came 20 minutes later then she brought our food to us 6th. Never came back to check to c how food was once even, 7th we ordered a beer for my husband and she brought him another rum punch, he said no this is not right, he wanted a beer, she said”oh I thought you wanted another of what you had been drinking, he said no I ordered a beer, and she walked off without getting his beer, 8th. then she brings bill and I asked for a big and small box 9th. She stood right there until I put leftovers in boxes then grabbed the dishes. Ever ever have we had a bad experience there NOT ONCE. Can’t tell u what her name is because she didn’t give us it.
