I am giving this place 5 stars...but understand that's a relative review, not absolute; relative to the competition in Wentzville MO.
Funny thing is it's the first Mexican food I have tried here so take my review with a grain of salt. But based on my trained eye for reading between the lines and stars of Google Maps reviews, I am willing to bet this place has few competitors in town when it comes to authentic Mexican food at an affordable price point.
I had an al pastor burrito and lengua tacos. The burrito was tasty, with good proportions of meat, rice, beans, onion, cilantro, lettuce, and cheese. Flavor and texture of the al pastor (marinated pork/adobado/trompo) was satisfactory though I'm sure it wasn't cooked on the traditional spit (like shawarma). The menu said avocado was included but I didn't notice it. The cheese didn't taste real, however, which is typical in this region of the US.
The tacos were legit; succulent lengua, onion, and cilantro. Not homemade tortillas methinks but again, this is a relative review.
The red and green salsas were a star, rivaling those common in my native California lands and those I've tried in my travels to Mexico.
We arrived near closing time and the service was prompt and welcoming. We ordered to go, but will definitely dine in next time because if you do, you get the squeeze bottles of red and green salsa (instead of some number of solo cups) and you also get chips and a carafe of salsa fresca/pico de...
Read moreNo prices were on either English or Spanish Menu. So I just simply asked "What are you known for?" They had been open a couple of months.
$14.95 later, I felt a little taken. Lesson learned and probably won't go back. So if you have read this far and stop, I understand.
When reviewing a restaurant, I always take things into consideration, language is one of them. I don't take off for language issues or issues I have personally dealing with language barrier. 1 star is taken off for the fact there were no prices on the menu.
I took another star off due to the meal I received. Meat was not tender at all and super salty. Not for me.
So let's talk about the positives, hate dewndling on the negative. They do receive a star for clean restroom. Great job.
Another star was earned for clean tables and floors. The third star is given for the lovely atmosphere and religious decor.
So in conclusion, 3 out of 5. Clean location, clean restrooms and a pleasant atmosphere with a pleasing looking full dish of food. Tough meat being overly salty and no prices on the menu are a...
Read moreThe burrito is chubby on the inside plain on the outside. I have never had a burrito with rice on the inside. It's a great filler but I did not care for that. There was a generous amount of beef but it had no flavor. Very little cheese also on the inside. I do believe it was mostly rice. Sure would not have hurt to have some lettuce and sour cream on top to jaz it up.
The street taco also has plenty of beef but it tastes like plain hamburger with zero spices. The sprinkle of onion and the cilantro was nice but again it lacked flavor.
The chips came out warm and they were good. The salsa also lacked any flavor. I added the flavorless salsa on top the burrito to give it a boost but it really didn't help
The food was done quickly and the gentleman taking my order and cooking was very nice. The restaurant was clean.
I was just not a fan of the menu. Did not see any chili relleno's on the menu. Perhaps it is authentic Mexican food and I'm not used to it but all in all the 2 items I had were boring.
Don't believe I will give this place...
