Ordered a double steak burger with cheese and bacon. I made modifications to the toppings. The burgers are traditionally thin, but this was ridiculous. The cheese was trying to hold the meat together but it had been smashed into 4 pieces of nothingness. No meat had no flavor. The bacon was so thin it was see through and so skinny I thought the 2 pieces were one piece until I picked it up to eat it as the whole sandwich fell apart. All that I could taste was mayo.
I assume and understand for this company to survive it had to make some changes. The format to order is kiosk only. I'm ok with that. But since you have ordered exactly what you want without the miscommunication that seems to happen too often with a human order taker these days, I feel like I expect the back of the house to be even sharper. Wrong. Next time I will see if I can order a scrambled burger with cheese on the kiosk lol.... There is no need to tip because there is no service, unless you preder to tip at all the pther fast food restaurants too, because that is what Steak n Shake has turned into. A person yells your name when your food is ready. The rest is on you before and after the food arrives. The new look is nice and bright and updated, but the new structure of Steak 'n Shake is flawed. The idea of taking the waiter/waitress away has created something instead that resembles a customer service line at Kohls where everyone is standing there complaining about what there order is missing. It creates tension in a place that is trying to hold on to being a sit down restaurant. And this location had a person yelling names who looked like she has a bad day everyday. I hate leaving bad reviews but I couldn't find a...
Read moreStopped here after a Cardinals game with a large group of family members (14 total, including two toddlers, 3 school aged children, 3 teenagers, parents and grandparents). The restaurant was almost completely full, but we were seated quickly in 3 separate booths (we did not mind being seated separately). The waitress did not provide crayons, did not distribute kids menus between tables, did not provide high chairs, and was not willing to take food orders along with drink orders commenting "There are just so many of you and only one of me." We did not receive any straws with our drinks, we did not receive any silverware or napkins until I retrieved them from the waitress station myself (my mother-in-law requested silverware and after saying she would bring some the waitress began clearing another table instead), my husband was given unsweetened tea and told there was sweetener on the table, the waitress literally reached over our empty drink glasses to serve our toddler's food and then promptly walked away without clearing a single item (my father-in-law ended up clearing the items instead) and when we finally received food at our table, it was cold and the rest of our group had already eaten and were ready to leave. Further, my chicken melt had 4 bites of chicken total, my husband's guacamole burger had Frisco sauce on it (although not requested), and his fries did not have cheese (as requested). And to top it off, the bathroom only had one working stall and was not clean by any measure. During our dining experience, we watched several other large groups be seated, served, dine, and depart. It was obvious that while competent service was available, we were not...
Read moreIn my opinion, you don't go to Steak n Shake for quick service. We go occasionally because it's inexpensive and the kids like it. On our last visit, we waiting 20 minutes for a table, not because they were super busy but because no one bussed the vacant tables. It's always chaotic here, this visit was no different. I heard the manger repeatedly tell customers as they were paying (and commenting on the slow service) that he was OVERSTAFFED and that the newer employees didn't know what to do. I didn't hear any of the employees say they were new nor were they shadowing a seasoned employee to learn the job. His comment made no sense and made him look incompetent. If there were indeed new employees in the back, someone wasn't doing a good job of supervising them. As far as the food, we waited quite a while (which we expect). The food came before our shakes and was cold, the cheese on the burgers wasn't melted at all. We had to ask about the shakes as did the table next to us (who had been waiting longer than us on their shakes). Once we finally got our shakes, it appears as though they threw some m&m's on top, the shake was not mixed at all. One of the shakes came out wrong all together and had to be remade. It was a typical visit here, I've never understood why they don't have someone designated to bus the tables and seat people. Instead, the servers do all of this, Steak and Shake drops the ball here, let the servers take care of their tables, they can turn them faster and ultimately make more money. And the manager needs to stop...
