*Update* For a place that was once crowded I see why they are now empty… Me and my family decided to go here for taco Tuesday seeing as though they were offering $10 taco plates (Mexican tacos) and $5 margaritas. We understood that the flour shells (Miami tacos) weren’t apart of the deal and had no problem paying the regular price. After telling the waitress multiple times that 2/3 plates wanted flour shells while placing our order she still proceeded to bring out 2 plates with corn shells (Mexican tacos). We sent the food back and it took a while for our replacements to come out. The family member who did order the $10 Mexican tacos with corn shells was charged for the Miami tacos ($13.95). When we brought it to our waitress attention she argued that he had Miami tacos when our entire family witnessed him eating the Mexican tacos with corn shells. She pulled another waitress who had glasses on over from the bar. Instead of stepping to the side and discussing the issue they stood right in front of us speaking their native language without allowing us to get a word in. When we did finally get a chance to speak up the waitress with the glasses proceeded to say “he ate it didn’t he”. The fact of the matter isn’t that we said it was nasty or anything we were simply trying to tell them he was being charged for shells he didn’t have! If a person get the special then they should be charged for the special, not something else. Even if he did have the Miami tacos, his total should’ve been $22 like mine ( I had the Miami tacos ($13.95 and one margarita $5) but instead it came out to $25 for Mexican tacos ($10) and one $5 margarita which doesn’t add up at all… But because he didn’t send it back, even though it was what he ordered and she wrote something else down, he was charged for flour shells. He also couldn’t eat pork so when substituting the bacon rice the waitress stated they had white rice with beans instead but when he received his plate there were no beans in the rice but he didn’t care about that so it was no need to send it back. To not cause a fuss he just paid his total but there was no type of apology or anything for the mistake THEY made. The waitress with the glasses made it seem as though it was all our fault because he didn’t send it back… This place went from a business that cared about their customers to a place that just simply want the money. It’s extremely disheartening that a customer ordered one thing and was charged for something completely different (maybe even more!) and instead of listening to the customer complaint, they only cared that he ate it. Sad to say I won’t be returning or recommending their establishment anymore. 5/5 would most definitely recommend to family and friends! Me and my husband went last night for our date night. As soon as we walked in we were greeted right away and asked where we would like to sit. We sat at the bar and they checked on us constantly which is a good thing because any questions we had, they were already there to answer them. So many options I couldn’t decide but they were patient and gave recommendations for what’s good to try. I had the frozen strawberry margarita and fell in love! It was gone within minutes and I was drinking my husband drink lol. I ordered a frozen strawberry mango margarita and could feel the buzz from the 1st one settling in. Our food came quickly after our 2nd drink and OMG is it delicious 😩 I had the McWings and rice and got full halfway through with enough to take home! Not sure why this place have bad reviews when stated multiple times they just opened and only a small business. Being a business owner myself I understand the delays in equipment but the engaging family atmosphere trumps everything!

********UPDATE******* I took one star off my review after the restaurant responded to my initial review. There is no excuse for how old the food tasted. If it was not cooked per order it is pre-cooked, and tastes old. If I say the food tastes like crap, telling me it's not actually made of crap doesn't make it taste any better. *********** This is not a good restaurant. We had high hopes after reading the reviews. We happily waited a half hour or so before a table for 4 opened up. Waitress took our orders and a few minutes came back with the drinks. I ordered a coconut mojito - it tasted like pure Coco Lopez (which tastes awful) and had wilted/brown bits of mint. A slice of lime was burning on top. I thought the concept made absolutely no sense, but it also tasted awful. Half hour later we still didn't have our food, so we asked if we could at least get our appetizer, and a few minutes later we had our tostones, which were the best part of our meal. About another 20 minutes later we got our food. The rice and beans are clearly pre-cooked, and heated in a microwave. The beans were thick and cold, like they'd been in the fridge for days. The mangú tasted like it was made days prior, hardened up in the fridge, so they tried to add hot water to make it soft again. The eggs were hard, the meat was overcooked but cold, and the chicharrón was gummy. The ownership should be ashamed as this is clearly a Kitchen Nightmare type restaurant with a client base who could care less, if you believe the reviews. Awful... when I tell you the beans were awful I mean been in the fridge so long it's offensive to see them there. My stomach is turning just remembering this awful meal...

I REALLY wanted to like this place but for the several reasons I will list I was just not thrilled with this place. First off I love that they have reservations and that they accommodated my request of a lower table (partner had knee surgery). It was vibrant when we walked in and seemed inviting. Drinks took a long time come to the table (both times), which would have helped with the even longer wait we had for our food. And the drinks were mostly juice We arrived at 6:50 and did not get our actual food until 7:50. By that time they had run out of Puerto Rican rice and subbed it for “bacon” rice which was exactly that. Bacon and NOTHING else flavor wise. Definitely disappointed because it’s odd that a Caribbean restaurant would run out of rice… but I digress. Because I ordered some Dominican fried rice I said I did not want the bacon rice. They gave it to me anyways and still charged me $9 for the “side” of rice. Pepper steak was good and so were the wings. But after waiting an hour for food that was simply okay at best and running out of everything I actually wanted I was just left not impressed with this place. Sad because I was really hoping for better but all the free plantains couldn’t fix slow service and so so food. ON TOP of that they charged us ( a table of two) 15% gratuity which left our bill at $109. Absolutely ridiculous considering how they kept apologizing for the lateness of everyone in the restaurant’s meals. Overall it’s not worth the hype and I hope they improve with time.

We had a great meal and experience at McCoCo's! After seeing them on Fox 6 I really wanted to try them out and we were not disappointed. The menu had a good spread of choices that met the needs of the whole family (mom, dad, 9 year old, 5 year old and 1.5 year old.) The food and drinks were great! The plates were colorful and heaping with meat, veggies, and rice. We left feeling very full and satisfied with the food. We loved their margaritas, we thought they used key lime giving them a different kind of sweeter taste! The overall vibe of the restaurant was great! When you walk in it can feel like you're walking into a steamy summer afternoon with the fun music, palm trees and fun lights! Definitely a vibe I can get behind during the Wisconsin winter! Our youngest loved all the lights and clouds on the ceiling. The service was great! Our waitress Laura was very friendly and amazing with our kids! They thought she was the best! One of the kids food was running behind in the kitchen and he was visually upset so she brought him a little mini key lime pie. Also when our youngest started to throw a tantrum she came by and with permission swooped him up and took him on a tour of the restaurant. He loved it and mom and dad were happy too because our little guy was no longer screaming! Do yourself a favor and visit this little gem in Downtown West Allis! When you do tell Laura we say "Hi!" PS they mentioned they would be opening up their back patio in May! We can't wait to try that out for a fun summer...
