Backstreet Simply Delicious — Restaurant in West Cape May

Hands down the most delicious restaurant I have been in a while. Let’s start with appetizers: pan fried tomatoes with remoulade and pan fried crab cake were sooooo delicate, full of flavors and absolutely finger licking delicious. For entree, I had pan fried sea bass in a lemon caper sauce and as soon as I had a first bite- I was almost in tears how familiar and absolutely outstanding this dish was, I enjoyed every bite and wanted to prolong this experience as much as possible. So much flavor, so much simplicity and beauty in this one dish. My bf got Caribbean jerk grouper with mashed sweet potato and it was so outstanding and both slightly spicy and sweet. To top it off, we ordered blueberry cobbler- it needed to be ordered at least 30min prior to bake—- outstanding, light and special with the scoop of ice cream. We went to this cafe looking for a coffee place on our way to Cape May Whale watching. The owner, Toni gave us a warm welcome with a smile. We liked the place and ended up having breakfast there. Some of us had food restrictions but our hostess, Amanda, and the chef Teresa were really accommodating and prepared special sandwiches for us.

It's a nice small family run place, the ambience was quiet, the cleanliness was awesome and the staff were super friendly. We had a nice time and ended up spending more time than we initially planned for - drinking free coffee refills and their homemade fries.

We dined here last week and the food was not as good as previous meals we've enjoyed here. We were looking for a low-key, mid priced place and thought of Backstreet Cafe. The server seemed annoyed and didn't apologize when she knocked over an expensive bottle of saki. The food was not bad and matched the decor and vibe of the restaurant, but the prices did not.
