I visited Beach Plum Farm Café during my first trip to Cape May and, unfortunately, the experience was very disappointing. I ordered a scone and a raspberry blueberry muffin. Both items lacked flavor, and when I broke open the muffin, I was surprised to find it completely devoid of berries. I politely asked the young woman working whether this was typical, and her response was unexpectedly rude. She told me, “they’re all different,” and when I still looked confused, she curtly asked if I just wanted another one. While I did accept her offer and the second muffin did contain fruit, there was no graciousness in the exchange—no apology, no friendliness, just the replacement handed over without a word. Given the setting and reputation, I had high hopes for this stop, but the lack of flavor in the baked goods paired with the poor customer service left a bad impression. Cape May itself was wonderful, and I look forward to returning—but I can honestly say I won’t be returning to Beach...
Read moreWe had a few days in Cape May for the holiday festivities and were looking for an early morning treat. We found Beach Plum Bakery via the internet and due to the reviews made a special visit. Wish the treats were worth a special trip. Alas, not so. The scones were dry and crumbly. Warming them up at home with butter helped but not much. Not a huge selection, so left disappointed. Special tip: We were telling a waitress at one of the restaurants about our disappointment and she recommended "Chez Michel". The craziest coincidence - I used to absolutely love the French bakery on the Wash. St. Mall and always wondered what happened to it. Well, Chez Michel is one and the same baker!! I am so excited to try his croissants next time I'm in good...
Read moreThe place itself is cute. It is a small shop that is inviting. We had the drip coffee that was fresh and strong with a nice flavor. We got 6 doughnuts ($9) We tried four flavors—2 regulars that are always on the menu (powdered and cinnamon sugar) and 2 seasonal (matcha glazed and cannoli). Each doughnut is $1.75. Maybe I was expecting too much because of the price but I was extremely disappointed. They tasted dry—like maybe day old. The matcha had a weird taste and the cannoli was basically white icing/glaze with chocolate chips. The powdered and cinnamon sugar were okay. It’s a cute place definitely designed to draw you in but was disappointing nice...
