We celebrated our 4 year anniversary at the hotel as a couple. We were really looking forward to a special night as it was our anniversary so we went ahead and booked the at the Wilbraham despite the fact that it was the most expensive room in Cape May for that night. Because of this we thought we were going to get something extra special. Boy, were we surprised! We found it's missing a lot of finishing touches that for a hotel room this price should not be missed. For example, no shampoo or conditioner in the bathroom. We could hear the couple in the hot tub in the next room over after midnight which was right next to our bed (on the opposite wall). While we were sleeping, they were still in the hot tub, preventing us from falling asleep. Later on in the evening, the man's snoring woke both my husband and I up. The man's snoring woke us up again in the morning! We stayed in the new addition building, not the main house, which is more like a motel than anything else. The new looking outside facade of the building doesn't seem to match the more outdated look of the interior of the same building. It seemed like really old rooms but the outside picture makes it look updated. Also, when I reviewed all the places to stay in Cape May I did a thorough search of pictures. The Wilbraham mansions pictures on their web site do not match the room that you actually get. The pictures online are much more fantastical looking than the two rooms that I had the chance to see while I was there. Neither of the rooms were bright and cheery as depicted in the pictures. The breakfast was not good. We paid $265 for a queen room which we found, for what you get, to be way overpriced. We figured maybe they would make it up to us with a great breakfast but we got a piece of butter soaked French toast with two dried up sausage links on a plate. Other than that, there was a big casserole dish with eggs that was sitting way down at the other side of the table with no one to pass them to us. Fruit was sitting at each place setting waiting for us when we came down to the dining room. I saw them setting that up at 7 and we ate after 9. Breakfast wasn't set up conveniently on the table. With a large rectangular shaped table, you really need salt and pepper shakers on both sides of the table, creamer and coffee on both sides of the table. Guests shouldn't have to get up out of their chair and walk to the other side of the table to get what they need. Felt that the breakfast was lacking in every way. The reviews that I read, the people were ranting and raving about the breakfast but I really didn't see where the value was there. Also, open containers of creamer and juice are not good! All morning, open containers were filled and refilled with dust and dirt flying through the air which settles on the top of the liquids, eew! Containers should be closed. Nice things about the Wilbraham are all cotton bedding, nice linens, double-headed shower, plenty of hot water, bikes that you can use, a nice heated indoor pool but lacking lounge chairs. One lounge chair in the pool area doesn't cut it for couples that want to lay around and relax by the pool. The location wasn't bad but, again, too far from the beach and lacking value to charge such a high price. It just seems like there's a lack of real caring or TLC with the property and it's guests. Two women seem to be caring for the property during the entire time we were there and always seem to be running around frantic and not really any time to spend with guests . The addition building which we stayed in had an elevator but it was extremely slow. We are handicapped and cannot use steps. Just staying in this building on the third floor for one night, the elevator became very tedious, waiting for it as it was very slow to go up and down. Overall, sad to say, I would not stay at the...
Read moreAs a surprise, my boyfriend took me to Cape May for a romantic getaway for our one year anniversary. Staying here at the Wilbraham Mansion was just perfect…I absolutely loved it! No kids around, just couples, mature couples. We stayed in the main mansion, which was gorgeous! We went in mid-June and stayed for 2 nights, Saturday and Sunday and then went back home on Monday. Once we got there, parking was a breeze and throughout our entire stay parking was always available almost right in front of the mansion, if not they have their own parking in the back of the mansion which is free for us guests. So once inside, we were greeted and given a quick tour around the mansion, she also showed us a book with places to go and places to eat. They also have coupons next to the check-in area, which was awesome; we got $10 off our kayak rentals! She showed us to our room, (room 6) it was simple but I loved it! It was very clean, the bed was very comfortable, the room had its own bathroom, air conditioner and the view was very nice too. Although the main mansion doesn’t have central air conditioner, it was always nice and cool inside and I went in mid-June which was hot outside. Throughout our entire stay, the mansion was always impeccable and the staff was always very welcoming and polite. Breakfast was always yummy and I loved their tea time!! For tea time they would put out fresh hot coffee, hot water, iced coffee, tea, lemonade, sweet iced tea, fresh fruits, cheeses, crackers, lemon poppy seed cake, chocolate cake, and other yummy snacks. For me, my favorite and best part about staying here was the location and the pool. The pool is only for guests (no kids under 18, so awesome), and it was open all day, it was so much fun!…I remember coming back from dinner around 10:00pm and we decided to just go for a nice swim…having the liberty to do that was just so awesome! The location of the mansion could not have been anymore perfect! Unlike most bed & breakfast in Cape May which are located in tight, crowded spots with no parking, this Mansion was apart from all the rest but close enough to get into all the action. It was walking distance from the beach and boardwalk, restaurants, bike rentals, shops, ACME (supermarket)… practically everything is nearby. There is also a little park with benches right in front of the mansion were you can just sit, relax and watch people walk by hand in hand. Or you may want to visit the West End Garage right in front of the mansion; it’s a vintage shop filled with antiques, beautiful handmade arts and crafts, vintage clothes, jewelry…you can buy almost anything in this store. Conclusion: I would definitely recommend this gorgeous mansion…especially those who want a relaxing, stress free place to stay. I loved, loved, loved it here! I can’t wait to go back! Thanks Wilbraham for making my first year anniversary the most amazing and for your superb and...
Read moreMy husband and I were taken to Cape May by my husband's parents for our anniversary. It was our first time in Cape May. Our experience at the Wilbraham was fantastic! We were first greeted by Doug who is super friendly! When we got to our room we were blown away by how large and cozy it was! Literally after a long day of walking and heat coming back to such a warm and welcoming room was so nice.
Another amazing feature is the kitchen is always open. You can walk into the kitchen at anytime of day and grab anything from drinks, hard boiled eggs, tea, coffee, left overs from tea time, and more! The kitchen has a microwave and coffee makers so if you'd like to heat up some leftovers it's a short walk away from your room.
The bathrooms are massive. A two person jacuzzi and a double headed shower! It was so nice having a relaxing environment for showering.
The location is also great! It's a short walk to the Washington Street Mall. Bikes are also available at the hotel for no additional cost. Doug handed us beach tags too when we first got to the hotel! My husband and I thought that was so kind of the hotel to provide beach tags at no additional cost.
There is a nice indoor pool as well if you felt like coming back and relaxing by the indoor pool!
Only suggestions I'd say for the hotel is to provide a way for guests to comfortably get on and off the bed. I did struggle to get on the bed being 5'6". Another suggestion is provide a place to place toiletries in the shower. I had to place my shampoo and such on the floor and bend to grab them. Last suggestion would be to provide a place for a foot to be placed to assist with shaving. Having to do yoga to get my calf shaved after a long day was not the funnest thing ever.
Overall this place deserves more than five stars! Super comfy and cozy! Staff is so nice. Breakfast delivered daily! Afternoon tea and snacks! I would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone planning a trip to Cape May! Thank you for such a beautiful hotel! My husband and I hope to...
