My husband and I have been to the restaurant many times. We loved the food and the atmosphere. It was always a nice night out. We enjoyed it so much that we invited two of our friends to join us there for restaurant week. The entire night was really a disappointment, and we probably won't risk going again anytime soon.
It was restaurant week, so they had a limited menu. We had went during this week before, but always had the option to also order off the regular menu. This time, we were limited to the set restaurant week menu. After we selected each of our courses, one of the wait staff brought out the dinner rolls and said, "Here's some bread," and walked away. We actually laughed because you have this "high class" atmosphere and the waitress just plops down some bread.
I ordered the Shrimp and Crab Fritters for the appetizer, and it was the tiniest portion imaginable. I was served two small "fritters". They were probably between a quarter and a half dollar size. Delicious, but so very small.
The entrees were pretty tasty, but again, quite small. We were all still quite hungry after we had the first two courses.
The dessert sounded awesome (“It’s a Rocky Road” - Chocolate ganache, chocolate covered peanut butter pretzels, candied peanuts & marshmallows), but it was such a letdown. It was less than a handful of items strewn across the plate. It just seemed like they had these items and rather than making something creative from them, they just tossed them across the plate.
Once we finished dessert, we were chatting and finishing up our drinks. Not more than 5 minutes after finishing dessert, we were strongly encouraged to finish our drinks on the porch. I understand trying to get as many customers in as you can, but there's also something to be said about allowing your customers to enjoy themselves. We weren't trying to stretch out the night or sit there until closing, but I feel as if we shouldn't have been pressured to leave before we finished out glasses of wine.
Overall, our once favorite Cape May dinner destination turned into one we care not to try again. There are too many great restaurants in the area to waste time in one that is just so-so. Plus, if I'm paying for a dinner, I prefer not to leave hungry (or be pushed out...

Read moreThis is a true “find” of a restaurant. Literally! My boyfriend and I actually first came here about 8 years ago because we’d gotten ‘hooked’ on going to places with “black” in the name! (ie-the “Black Bass” in New Hope, PA). For some reason we have found this to be a harbinger of good things to come, and once again, it was! Tight seating areas aside, the atmosphere is light and cozy. Romantic really. Check the online menu before going-it is VERY limited. The chef focuses on what is being prepared and is attentive to the use of local and fresh ingredients which is incorporated into all of the meals served. Thus the individualized preparation of each meal ensures the food received is prepared to your liking and served as soon as prepared. Fortunately , although my willingness to try ‘new’ foods is equal to that of a 5-year old (add a # behind the 5 for my true age) says my boyfriend of many years, I am always able to find something to my liking ((even if it means the chef needs to amend something in what I order from the usual preparation).... (which I’m sure brings muttering about ‘what’s he serving, a 5-year old”?!?!?)! In any event, add this place to your itinerary, but check the online menu first! And-MAKE A RESERVATION! This is not a large...
