Didn't even get to taste the food because of a poor customer service experience! I have been craving Thai tea and while the first initial experience was pleasant, the host was kind, my second experience left a bad taste in my mouth, without even really getting to taste the food! There is a $5 minimum charge on credit cards while my husband is a business owner I understand the reasoning behind this as they are taxed for using credit card services... the first time I tipped 100% ($2.50) on a $2.50 Thai tea.. no problem having to do that to reach the minimum. Well I had a craving a couple days later. I got to the restaurant at 8:45 they said they were closed because they were out of food on a Friday! I understood being a restaurant manager in the past, and it being the Covid era, so I just told them I wanted a Thai tea. It was a different host this time and she seemed more interested in cleaning than serving, but she said she could do the tea. She then told me this was the only time they could do the one tea unless I wanted to buy 2, i agreed though i didn't understand the less tip, and it would have been the same charge either way and less product. I told her I couldn't drink both but would save one for tomorrow so to not put ice in one so I could have a fresh one tomorrow. I also requested light ice in the one for now, seeing as how they put alot of ice and less tea. When she brought me the receipt I saw the total was $6.93. Confused as to how 2 $2.50 teas became almost $7... I at this point felt bad she had already poured the teas and took them. I shouldn't feel forced to purchase them but it was only $7 and didn't want to make a big deal. My problem was the customer service! Looking at my receipt o saw that they charge $1 for no ice and .50 for light ice.. lol.. again my problem was the host not communicating that because at that point it wasn't a big deal, I would not have purchased anything and took my service to Starbucks for a frap! It's a Thai tea.. at this point I could have had an entree! Like I said, customer service really turned me off even with the understanding of my past employment experiences and present experience... left a bad taste in my mouth and no customer should have to feel that way at any establishment. I did them the favor of not wasting the product when I should have just...
Read moreIt really kills me to read all these positive reviews. I will admit the food is great but there is a darker underbelly to it all. I am a former employee and haven't worked there for quite a while. I still often have nightmares involving Lek, the one who runs the store. I'm going to keep things relatively vague, as to obscure my identity. I worked there for only a few months, which is a lot longer than most of the people who were hired. The turn over rate is truly phenomenal. We had a new cook every couple of weeks. Literally a new person every 2-3 weeks. From what I can tell, Lek prefers to have at least one punching bag on the pay roll. She would viciously verbally abuse these individuals. One of her trademarks is to rhetorically ask why the individual had made the particular mistake that had been made. More often than not the person would just stand there sulking while she continued on her tirade. I feel the constant questioning served to break down and humiliate the individual. I saw a great change in the personalities of some of these people. If the abuse of employees doesn't bother you, perhaps the lack of sanitation will. Cut bowls of chicken are often left out in room temp for hours. The fried food is made early in the day and then also left out in room temp until they are ordered. Same with the eggs. Hopefully it kills all bacteria but who knows? Also none of the food is labeled with freshness dates as it would be and has been in every other restaurant. Beef is one of their slower sellers. As result the top layer in the pan is also always browned and dried. luckily the use of small cuts helps to disguise this. I had been debating for a long time as whether or not to expose the tyranny the workers suffer through at this restaurant. Seeing these evil individuals succeed and prosper has convinced me that the truth needs to be told. Lek is a very superficially nice individual but I can promise all of you that behind that kitchen door she is a very cruel person and every plate of food you buy contributes to the abuse and neglect of...
Read moreI'm surprised I haven't left a review for this place yet! My favorite Thai place of all time. In fact only the third one I ever went to. The food has never disappointed, and I have been going since they opened at their Fairfield location; anyone asking me for a restaurant recommendation, Sawasdee is always at the top of the list.
The food is all fresh, cooked to order, and packed with flavor. There hasn't been one thing I've gotten that I disliked, but my absolute favorites will always be the Chef's Special fried rice and Hot Spicy Basil Chicken (at their new location, this is now "Holy Basil Pork Stir Fry" or Pad Kra Pao Moo Sub). My mom is a huge fan of the Hot Pot, and a coworker if mine really loves the Singapore Noodles. The appetizers are scrumptious and I am hard pressed not to order one even when I've shown up not feeling as hungry. I live for her spring rolls and sauced chicken wings.
I love that Lek is always actively trying to add new specials. The jalapeño bomb, Chef's special rice, and Cincinnati rolls weren't always on the menu, but I am so glad they are. Occasionally she has stewed pork leg on special and it is TO. DIE. FOR.
To give you an idea of how much I love the food and the staff here: when they closed their Fairfield location, I set their Facebook page to "See First" so I could without-a-doubt make sure I could be there their opening day. I had several friends in high-school work here, and Lek has gone so far as to give me a birthday gift one year when my mom and I came in for lunch that day. She is always spoiling her regulars, and for a long time, every time my parents and I would visit, she would let us taste what she was considering adding to the menu. This woman can literally cook anything she sets her mind to. I an honestly so glad to know Lek and her cooking; she is one of the most kindest, hard-working souls on the planet. There was a time when she was recovering from a knee injury, and she was still back there dishing it out in her cast with her little scooter, God bless her 🥺
Eat here!...
