Damen Tavern — Restaurant in West Chicago Township

I loved this place. Please talk to your bartenders (one specifically) on how they speak to paying customers. After being harrassed by a group and being called spiks because we vaped out the open window, we still remained calm and went about celebrating my birthday. Security had to escort that lady out the bar because she kept coming back in yelling at us. If we had violated any of the bars rules just a simple having security come talk to us or hey guys, you can't vape out our windows would've sufficed. (which we weren't yelling through an already open window). Nice job of the security for standing up and handling the situation very professional. In which they understood the bartender was wrong for the way she came cursing and yelling at the group. Even bystanders were telling her that we did nothing wrong it was the folks who had just left but guess the hispanics who had been there for over 3 hours must be the ones to get kicked out. If she keeps on talking to customers the way she did with us, she's not realizing the risk she's putting her own...

1/25/23: I took my friend out to this bar for his birthday, he just moved to the area. I bought my friend a guiness and he went to the bathroom and left his jacket on his chair and drink on the bar table. Some blonde girl sat on his jacket and seized his chair. She appeared to be friends with the blonde bartender based on her dialogue with her. I politely informed her that my friend was sitting there as his jacket and drink were still there and she started fighting with me and cursing at me. She argued that well because he left to use the bathroom this chair is hers now. The blonde bartender serving us came over and defended her saying, "well she's a girl so that's her seat". How is that any courtesy? Just because you're a white woman friends with the bartender doesn't give you the privilege to steal someone's seat. If she had asked if she could sit there I would've been fine with that. The bartender supporting her in this made my experience here feel like minorities aren't welcome here. I'm going back to welcoming and hospitable...

Frankly, I find the 5-star limitation insulting to this fine establishment. There simply aren't enough stars at my disposal to do this bar justice. The quality of beverage? Beyond reproach. The service? World-class. The prices? They're essentially paying you to enjoy a fine cocktail and bask in the cornucopia of ambiance provided to all patrons. If you're still reading this and have yet to dress yourself with the footwear and sensible jacket of your choosing, then you're either overwhelmed by sheer magnitude of this unimaginable watering hole or you're likely beyond saving. Just in case someone still needs convincing - they also have shuffleboard, TV's to watch various sporting matches and/or Maury, and Touch Tunes so you can enjoy the latest smash-hits by award-winning artists such as Chingy or Jibbs.
